What were the protests like today, didn’t see or hear much on the tele?
Only seen a few photos and videos
The genuine protesters seemed sensible and organised
There was a few ENIC out guys there. Could spot them in the video holding their tinnies
But the ground was heaving
Bar took longer than any game before and the food queue did too

Agreed, I think Donnely and also Dorrington are two I see as very close to at least proper squad exposure on a regular basis. Kyermaten is another exciting young player. Here's hoping we nurture their talents properly! I fear we have wasted some very good players in the last few years, Harvey White, Dane Scarlett and, of course, Troy Parrott, albeit still more than young enough to step up up...

Harvey White's time here looks like it is over. Hopefully, he'll bugger off to Norwich or somewhere similar and have a decent career. With Parrott, it looks like they might keep him on the books but loan him out in the hope of getting a fee. With Scarlett, I have an inkling he might make it but then I'm still waiting for Neil McNab to fulfil his potential, so what do I know?

I remember signing him at the age of 16 ( him not me) very talented player, hard little bugger as well and put himself about.

In what way have we wasted them or not nurtured their talents? Maybe they just aren't good enough?
They've gone out on loan and had chances but haven't exactly set the world on fire. The majority of young players don't make it at any club.

But conversely the stockpiling of players in many positions has also probably stopped the development and progress of players on the fringe.

When we have multiple players in one area and we have gone and added more, the logical step would intheory be to clear out the excess you don't need and at least provide fleeting experiences to players in development. We have had 3/4 LB and RBs are some points, that's excessive and hinders every aspect of the club.

You could argue that we could have cut our losses with someone like Moura a season earlier to benefit a Mundle who eventually left to go elsewhere, maybe not good enough but equally not really joined up thinking by the club.

They have thankfully acknowledged that in the statements last year about the youth etc

My word! I never thought I'd see that name on this forum. I remember both the potential and incredibly squashed face, rounded out by a top-lip gerbil AND that long, stringy hair. This generation don't know what they've missed...

I think that's a fair point, but it seems we really don't get our kids great loans.

I knew I knew the name but it was from at his time at City. Never had a clue he played for us. It’s also a quirk of that era that many players, McNab included, looked mid 40s to mid 50s for most of their careers.

Possibly but look at the likes of Skipp, took his chance with Norwich and did well - possibly the last loan player I remember setting the championship alight and he is now part of our first team. That’s what these players need to do, especially without europa or conference league

Skipp had already had exposure to the first team though, that held him in good steed with Norwich.

At the end of the day, the argument isn't really only about which players have and have not been good enough, it's has Spurs been a platform conducive to develop youngsters recently? For me it's a resounding no.

I think we do as well if not better than most top 6 clubs.

Depends on what you consider youngsters really, did they have to come from the youth system or just be a player under 23?

But many of those clubs have purposely purchased expensive players and stockpiled like Chelsea that's blocked development. Even TBF to Chelsea for example, they have had a fair few come through, of course we could go down the whole isngood enough route.

But as I've said, our MO previously hasn't even been that, we have had poor seasons with poor performances and have IMO used those moments to try others or at least bleed in some youth. I would have taken a few over the sub par performances from the past 5 years for sure, I would have certainly had some on the bench taking the place of some of the added poor quality we added at times.

Also just to add, I think there is a difference between brining in one youngster to a strong team to give them their chance than chucking 3/4 out for the team to fail and people cry out in unison that the kids are not alright, which often happens

True to a certain point. We've had 3-4 LBs or RBs but there's always been some of them out on loan. We've also had plenty of midfielders but Skipp still forced his way into the team.

Over the last 10 years we've had plenty come through the ranks, only a small amount made it here but did go on to make it elsewhere.
Off the top of my head, Kane, Mason, Bentelab, Townsend, Pritchard, Winks, Skipp, Walker-Peters, CCV, and Tanganga have all had some levels of success and I'm sure there are plenty more names that could be added to that list.

I feel we get carried away with the hype of younger players and when they don't make it we have a few that want to blame someone for that failure instead of accepting that they never had the ability to kick on and make it at the very top.

It's not about getting carried away with youth it's about having a strategy which is conducive to two areas and that's providing opportunities to youth and not continuing to stockpile mediocre players which intern hurts the clubs wage bill and also blocks progress, regardless.

Your list reads as on average a player a year, you could argue most of them were within the earliest of the last 10 years if not longer ago, most recently our setup in particular hasn't been conducive to youth success, be that those from the academy or those purchased. NOW it seems to have clicked and we also have a coach who is tuned into that way of thinking too.

As I say the club acknowledged that, acknowledged the waste of the academy and look like that's being addressed.

Skipp, Walker-Peters, CCV, and Tanganga are all relatively recent and not from around 10 years ago. These have come through so the opportunities are there if the player is good enough. Parrott, Scarlett and others have got minutes with the first team and good opportunities on loan but it hasn't worked so far, most are still young enough to make a breakthrough. The "mediocre" players have mostly been out on loan for a number of years and it's not a case of stockpiling but that nobody has the money to buy outside England. These haven't blocked any path to the first team.

The academy just doesn't suddenly click and start producing players, it's a process that takes years. If anything is wrong with the academy I'd say we could do better on the scouting front. And I'd say a player a year would be on par with teams at the top end of the table.

I think my points being taken to literal points and is missing the overall point I'm making or trying to make.

Our strategy in recent years, in general, with manager choices, transfer choices and overall choices as a club have not been conducive of being youth friendly even if we wanted to be.

And TBF we did stockpile in areas, whatever the process was at RB last year, I still can't work out, anything to self harm it seemed and having to dump a player on a free to work out what was happening. I'm probably one of the more positive fans on here but even that can't be spun as anything that was planned or made any sense. It's all linked, it all feeds into each other

As I say that seems to have changed now and we are seemingly braver in the choices, even if it's playing those players that were purchased as prospects, which in fairness was wasted on here and now managers. The whole process was disjointed.
