There is a lot of unusual transfer activity going on here (perhaps an attempt to explain it here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/artic...me-of-the-worlds-top-footballers-and-managers)

Is it as innocent as a country trying to be a new footballing power? Or is there something a little darker going on in the background (i.e. FFP)? Or perhaps a combination of the two (you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours*, etc)? Or perhaps something else...

Isn't it just another example of footballers following the megabucks? Like going to play in the Middle East, don't do that for the sporting challenge do you?
 
With Pep joining City and FFP, it would be incredibly convenient if a Chinese club with opaque ownership bought Yaya for £50m. Likewise for a Terry move.

Some of these Chinese clubs look to have legitimate big backers, but they gain from deals with western sugar-daddies because they get access to players and the publicity.

Some of the shadier clubs might use this as a way to increase their income. Sign up players, then ship them out after 6-12 months for a profit if they haven't come good.

We might now see room for some homegrown players in the EPL instead of all the third rate journeymen.

Nothing shady about that...if you can get it to work, it's a perfect no risk business model.

It's an expansion of what Chelsea are already doing, but now they don't even have to spend any effort on developing the players.

Chinese FA have introduced a 100% tax on any foreign player signing, effectively ruling out potential big money moves for Diego Costa etc.
The tax will be implemented against any loss-making club, and funnily enough, every single team is making a loss, so this does hit every club.
The idea is that it will fund the development and progression of Chinese players.
