Just noticed that 2019 Africa Cup Of Nations are being held in Egypt from June 21 until July 19. Remember, ACN were traditionally held on January-February which had always annoyed the European clubs. Now the European clubs can be happy that their season will no longer be interrupted by their African players going to the ACN in the middle of their season.

But too bad that June-July schedule means ACN will be clashing with other major tournaments like Copa America, Women's World Cup and others.

Probably a good idea to have all the stuff nobody watches on at once. If they could chuck the euro gonads on at the same time and hold them all once every 10 years it would be handy.
 
I suppose it would be watchable if Wanyama was going to be press-ganged into three years servitude in a safari lodge unless Kenya won. Would probably support Malawi.
 
Great shame african football did not continue to develop in the way it appeared to be going a few decades ago, so many great african players were playing for top european clubs now it's hard to name half a dozen.

We changed due to complaints. Now I am waiting for people to say the players don't have a summer break. Me I want us to change back to first quarter.

That said I look forward to watching the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

It would certainly be better if we could avoid both losing preseason and disappearing during the season.
 
As far as the ACN is concerned, moving it to June-July already looks like a bad decision. So far 7 matches have been played, but there is hardly any coverage in the media. January-February schedule had always received much better coverage in the media due to many European-based players in it mid season.

It's a great decision purely because it no longer interrupts the club season.

It is great for the clubs but not sure for the tournament. It cannot seem to compete with other tournaments for media coverage. Even the Women's World Cup gets more coverage than the ACN !

Clubs matter. Pointless international tournaments where teams are decided by random chance at birth don't.

They are not really pointless. We need these international tournaments to make you forget about the mental torture caused by Spurs every season ! After all, the bitter defeat in the CL final is going to haunt us for years to come. Tournaments like Women's World Cup, Copa America and African Cup of Nations may not be highly regarded but at least it makes you forget about the failures of Spurs at least before the new season starts ! As soon as the new season starts, you know you are going to feel bitter about the CL final again !:rolleyes:

Madagascar beat Nigeria 2-0 ! Nigeria always comes with big promises but rarely delivers at big tournaments. Not sure how they even won the 2013 ACN. They call themselves Super Eagles but always play like Fake Eagles !:D

Blah blah blah. I don't know who called Super Eagles as one of the favourites for this edition but that person must be joking. Offensively Nigeria is in need of more talent wrt strikers and attacking midfield. The offensive organisation is also not so good.

That said It was shameful to lose but that was due to poor attitude by the players in that match. Let's see the knock out rounds. By the way feel free to watch replays of 2013 to see how we won it including the demolition of Toure and Ivory Coast, Mali and their talisman etc

Poor attitude and lack of discipline are always the main reason African teams fail to make a mark at major tournaments like World Cup. Nigeria has no business losing to Madagascar and finishing below them in the group. As a result, Nigeria now face a tough R16 match against defending champions Cameroon !

Surprising results. Never thought Morocco, Cameroon and Egypt will lose to their opponents, especially Egypt. But then, ACN have always been full of surprises. Egypt is still the most successful team with 7 trophies despite only playing 3 times in the World Cup.
