I think Test "stats" give a reasonable judgement on players and performance but still don't reflect condition of pitch or weather. First class average are a useless tool to gauge the suitability of a player to play test cricket.

The xG thing reminds me of the formulas used by all those blokes ripping up their betting slips in the bookies.

It appears to be a big issue on here after most games. I rely on my own eyes to judge how well we played.

I just don't get why fans are interested in "match stats" Does having most possession, shots, shots on target, successful passes or tackles, algebra figures mean your team will win or lose? I don't think it does, the only "stat" that matters is goals scored the rest is just fodder for "experts"...

Is it lack of emotion or coming to terms with the reality that we are where we are in our history? I think people get too emotional about what is just a game, I get dissapointed with our performances and defeats but get on with my life.

I never expect a keeper to save a penalty or the taker to miss.

You're a dinosaur, the sooner FIFA take goals out of the results and decide games on passes, possession and the algebra ones the better.

I thought it was a good game to watch, dissapointed at losing and parts of our game but I did not expect us to get much from this match, they scored 2 wonderful goals and a penalty. I think anyone expecting us to beat them was deluded, they are a top team with a realistic chance of getting to...

I played in a game in 60's in Sunday Sportsmen League and 2 of our opponents were in an argument, the keeper headbutted their defender and got sent off and defender had broken nose. No subs back then so we played against 9. It was unusual as you had more chance of being sent off for swearing at...

That's what happens with squads when you change managers so often, since Pochettino left I think we've lacked identity and selected managers who need specific players for their systems rather than a manager who can build on what we have and identify where we can improve the squad.

There in lay the problem with systems managers, great when it works not so when it doesn't, I'm bedded into an era when the players mattered more than the manager. I think football has become so boring only 4/5 of the same teams trying to win league with 2/3 with realistic chance, the rest...

There is a early episode of The Bill where there are characters called Bobby Smith, John White and 2 others Jones and Brown. The surnames where common but it seemed a bit of a coincidence.

Just saw Andy Zaltzman running through the incredible stats for a 1st day of an Ashes test and he made a comment that Ben Stokes could never imagine when he won the toss and chose to bat that he would end the day with a fifer.

By grandson recently made an interesting point when we were talking about film remakes, "why don't they remake of some of the poor adaptations rather than the classics?"
