Did Ange need to go? We were doing better at this stage last season under him. I think if he stayed, we probably get less away points. But we almost certainly get more home points and are doing better overall.

I think Lange probably advocates for him to stay until European football is absolutely out of the question. I’m all about giving managers time. I’ve wanted to give every manager since Jol probably longer. I think it’s always about knowing what the manager is building towards though. I want...

Regardless, the players are better than to put in this routinely *dreadful* performances. Our squad gets talked about like it’s a championship side. It isn’t.

I was thinking this exactly. It’s reducing a team that we know is capable of playing football into one that only attacks with crosses. I remember when United lost a home game, ironically I think to Fulham, and they put the most crosses in ever for a PL game at the time. I think it’s all well...

To be honest, if we’re gonna play this way, I think Bentancur and Palinha in midfield is fine. Because we have absolutely no intention of playing any football offensively other than crossing. It’s to the point where Gray will make a run into the half space and Porro finds him, and I’m wondering...

Kolo is levels above anyone else in the side. In what looks like talent, but weirdly for a loan player, also effort. Bizarre. This is extremely disjointed. I’m sure the players feel some level of pressure to win at home, but it’s almost like every decision is wrong. And every duel is lost...

9th without a trophy wouldn’t be an improvement on 17th with one IMO. Let’s see where we get to at the end of the season.

This is a dreadful performance and I’m sure Frank will be furious. When his point after Arsenal was about winning the duels, we have been insanely bad in this area. It’s terrible.

That’s definitely an issue, I feel like it’s also today that the players are slipping. Bergval slipped on the first and Udogie on the second. But closing down properly needs poise and composure. I feel like Bergval in particular charges around and doesn’t actually think about the right position...

Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

On austerity, it’s why I specified the first 6 years and arguably the first 9 years. I listen to the Balls and Osborne podcast and I hear Osborne describing it that way so I feel confident in doing so. There was a definite objective to shrink the size of the state. No doubt NHS needs to improve...

Almost everything you’re saying comes back to the Government cutting spending.I totally respect your opinion on that, I just think we had a long austerity experiment which yielded nothing much. And meanwhile real people suffered a lot. Real people rely on the NHS. And just to take your child...

Would love to engage with you on the spirit of debate around this. Full disclosure I learn centre left but actually take more of a view of ‘what does the country need at the time’ and so can be pragmatic about when it’s time to be more pro business, or tighter on immigration etc. When I look...

I will say on rotation - my hope is that it gives us an opportunity to be better in the second half of the season. There are some clubs in vogue right now like Palace and Bournemouth but maybe the rotation will mean we’ll be well placed to get after it in the second half because we’ve spread the...

One big positive for Frank today is that after confidentially insisting after Arsenal that we’d get a reaction in performance today, we did indeed get one. Clearly the players are still trying to implement his ideas. It was a big call for Frank to make a confident proclamation like that with a...

    *******Spurs v PSG*******Official OMT*******

Annoyingly all of their goals were preventable. Even the first long range strike. Too big a gap in the zone in front of our box. On the second, I felt Lucas angled his run too deeply and didn’t prevent the space for the shot. These are things that hopefully can be ironed out. It’s concentration...

Feel like this was very much a coaching success with errors on the players, where some of our worst performances (Chelsea and Arsenal) have been coaching failures on confused players. We do this more often, we’ll be fine. Very glad to see it. Long may it continue.

I don’t think Ange was playing to score 60 to concede 60, just like Frank isn’t playing to score 40 and concede 40. If he was actually able to play his style of football properly an Ange team would score more than Frank’s and concede more too, but the gap in GS/A would be wider. I absolutely...

Just read his pre match comments transcript. It definitely was telling that his diagnosis was about the duels. I really like his transparency. I really like that he has a clear idea of what he wants. But this, combined with the pass maps, his selections, the general game management…this is...

I see what you’re saying. I just think we could have exactly the same squad but with Silva or Iraola in charge and we’d see a different style of football that would have been as effective if not more so. It would be balanced and we would have seen more attacking output so far. I’m sure of it...
