Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

Sure. Lost 1-0 in the first leg, destroyed them 6-1 in the return, got to the final....all facts mate. Depends on which ones you think are noteworthy, I suppose. For me, Poch dealt with more distractions and more games, and still got to a final and a semi-final while finishing 3 pts behind Ange...

Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

Or he would have lost them, like he lost to Fulham, Wolves, etc. No way to tell hypotheticals mate.

Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

Well, I freely admit I do have a bias mate - I never wanted Poch sacked, and still think every manager we've hired since is a downgrade, Ange included. But I'd like to think that doesn't mean I can't compare Poch and Ange's seasons reasonably. In this case, I think in total, they faced three...

Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

In the case of finals at least.. more than not getting to them? They pale in comparison to actually winning something, which our winless wonder will never do, but it's logical to say getting to finals beats not getting to them at all. The other factor to think about is that it makes the league...

Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

That's one way to look at it, sure. The other way to look at it - Poch finished just 3 pts behind Ange (iirc) despite getting to both a Cup final and a Cup semifinal in his first season, against Ange who got dumped out at basically the first opportunity twice and had nothing but free midweeks...

Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

Would be bloody overjoyed, mate. A homecoming for a man who should never have left, and one who *gets* us in a way no manager since really has done. :) Also think he had a better season than Ange did, but that's a different matter.

    FA Cup 23/24

Yep - and West Ham also won that one last year. At this rate Leyton Orient will end up winning something before us too. :p

    FA Cup 23/24

The question you should ask yourself mate, is where that mentality comes from. A fish rots from the head down. 23 years of players, managers, even fans coming and going - but only one constant in that time. Just think about it my friend. ;)

    2023-24 Season Review

I'd say it's a combination of what you've described mate. Here's how I see it - 1) The club's overwhelming priority is to finish in the top four each year - this gets them CL income, and finishing even one place above where you should gets you more in PL prize money than winning the FA...

    FA Cup 23/24

It's actually been a ridiculous season in that respect. - United, despite being dogbrick, have won a trophy we couldn't win since 1991. - Leverkusen, long dubbed 'Neverkusen' for their inability to win things, won the Bundesliga unbeaten and probably the German Cup roo. - Atalanta, with a...

    2023-24 Season Review

Okay - now the season in England is over, one can take a proper look at everything. Overall - 6.5. Decent, nothing spectacular. Promising start, understandably tough middle, bafflingly poor end. Some reasonable foundations to build on. Ange - 6.5. Decent, nothing spectacular. As I said...

Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

Haha - 34, so just a couple of years older than you, mate. ;) Likewise, I'm going to hit that mark myself in a couple of years - I was 18 when we won that Carling Cup, and will be 36 having seen us win absolutely f*ck all since. Christ, that's a thought. Hadn't considered it that way. Yeesh. :p

Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

It doesn't matter mate. That passes quickly because there's too many 'what ifs' to really keep that patter going. *If* we had beaten City, Villa would be more up for their game v Palace, etc. Fact is the best case scenario would have seen us 3 points behind Villa heading into the final game -...

Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

To an extent, yeah. Not particularly surprising or underhanded - all managers do it to distract from poor results and keep the pressure off the players. But I don't think it was the case here (or if it was, it was poorly thought through) because it has backfired on him as the fans point out...

Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

To be fair, doubt anyone has forgotten. That's what is confusing about this outburst from Ange. If he was blaming the fans for this loss as a way to distract from the fact that we've lost yet again, the 5th loss in the last 6...then it only works until people point out that the fans weren't the...

Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

This is pretty much me as well. I actually value the fact that folks like @parklane1 et al have seen us actually win things, because outside of one moment of sheer happiness in 2008, I never have. My entire life as a Spurs fan has been watching us be the constant failures, bridesmaids, and...

Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

That's a given - Pep is always very complimentary about the teams he usually beats, and we're now an addition to that list. Seriously - he'll praise the opposition as being incredible after City murder them 5-0. It almost comes across as condescending. Whereas, up until Ange, we'd never lost...

Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

Eh. I think there was enough encouragement at 0-0, because winning would have meant something. When we went 1-0 down, drawing would have been the worst outcome so there was some hesitancy. At 2-0 the tension was gone. To me it seemed like relief more than anything.

Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

It is exactly the same mate. In both cases, it's rejecting the idea of winning at any and all cost. Some things are more important, both to Ange and to the fans. Which is fair. But then, you cannot have double standards about it imo - when I decide to sacrifice short term results for long-term...

Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

@thfcsteff , dunno where your post went mate, but one thing you said interests me. You say that we shouldn't imply that he doesn't want to win games of football. The problem with that is, he has said exactly this, himself, multiple times. Remember when he said we could win without playing well...
