    So..... Syria?

Labour were wrong to whip their MPs against it, but there's no guarantee that the situation would be any better had we intervened. If Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria have shown us anything it's that the Middle East is a lose-lose situation for everyone involved whatever we do

    So..... Syria?

I'm not a fan of George Osbourne but I think what he says in this debate is quite appropriate. We all know the price of intervening in the Middle East with the Iraq war, and in Syria we are seeing the price of not intervening/

    Driver less cars

I agree, I don't think ownership of driverless cars will take off any time soon as people actually enjoy driving for the most part, which is why I think the rental market is the first step as an alternative to public transportation. Lets say I'm going to the south of France, give me a driverless...

    Driver less cars

How's that different to being a passenger? It's almost universally accepted that driverless cars are safer than human drivers. After 1.7 million miles, Googles cars have been involved in 14 minor accidents, only one of which was the fault of the driverless car. They still have a way to go but I...

I agree with this but integration is a key part of that evolution, otherwise you end up with two distinct cultures rather than one and that is where problems begin. For the record I'm sure many Brits are guilty of the exact same thing, moving to Spain to live in ex-pat communities.

I work at a University and know a number of Greeks who came here for their undergraduate and postgraduate studies and they are all staying in the UK, at least in the short term. I can't imagine it's good for Greece but it's certainly good for us.

I don't quite understand your point. I took your opinion as 'free movement is important because it allows people to leave' when in reality it's hardly a factor for most people as they tend to emigrate to non-EU countries. The emigration show an important factor and that is that language...

Britons don't need free movement to emigrate. In fact, of the Top 10 emigration destinations for Britons from 2009-14, six were outside the EU. Emigration to Australia alone (207,000) was more than to Spain, France, Germany and Ireland (154,000) combined. Based on the Top 10 destinations, non-EU...

I'm all for making it easier to bring in skilled immigrants in areas we need, but having an open door policy that lets tens of thousands unskilled people migrate to this country only forces us to refuse skilled workers from outside the EU. Of all the things to worry about after a Leave vote, not...

I don't think migrants are shooting darts at a map of Europe to decide where to move, they are coming here because they want to be here. If the prospect of a visa application is enough to put them off, should we really care that they don't come? Remember that the UK will always be a natural draw...

I disagree. We have no problem bringing in 180,000+ non-EU migrants per year now, all of whom need a visa. Leaving the EU won't suddenly stop Europeans wanting to come to live in the UK. If anything we can focus on bringing in migrants specifically to address any skills shortage we have.

A friend of mine posted this on Facebook the other day and my comment about it was so negative he deleted his post. There are plenty of reasons to vote to stay in the EU but that little essay is a crock of sh!t. It's basically saying that nothing we do makes any difference so we might as well...

I start a new job in a couple of weeks, a job which is funded by the EU, so when I argue that we should vote to leave the EU I say it knowing that a leave vote may come at significant personal cost. Regardless, it’s where I stand on the most important vote I’ve ever been a part of. On the...

Free trade is the tide that raises all boats. Europe will benefit from tariff free trade with a Brexit UK just as much as we will. Look at the kind of trade deals that the EU is exploring with Canada, Singapore etc... We all know free trade makes everyone wealthier, the EU won't cut themselves...

    Anyone good at probability?

I'll try and explain again using just the lottery as an example, maybe somebody else is having a similar problem and part of me enjoys explaining this kind of thing. Imagine a lottery where you are choosing 5 numbers from a possible 50. Now lets consider two tickets, (a) getting the first 5...

For the third innings in a row a bunch of guys have gotten in and out without going on to three figures. Ten times in three innings we've had players score 40+ without getting a century (not including Bairstow on 74*) and it will surely cost us at some point.

    Anyone good at probability?

You're right, your son is wrong. The odds for each ball are independent of previous balls, just like if a fair coin comes up heads 10 times in a row the next flip is still 50% chance heads and 50% chance tails. The odds of any ball coming out is unaffected by the previous ball and does not...

But its impossible to control for all factors. How can you really say an outcome is as a direct result of a policy? Take the economy, has austerity led to the economic bounce back or would we have more growth with less cuts in public spending? How can something like that ever be empirically...
