the Tim Sherwood man love thread

I didn't expect them to do a lot better, no. High up my list to get relegated. Lost their best players, didn't get great ones in return and they need time to adapt anyway. The fact that he would actually have been able to keep his best players, unlike what happened at Villa. I doubt he would...

    *** OMT Spurs v Aston Villa ***

Last year we actually managed fifth though, with a worse team. Now Chelsea is in such a mess I don't see why we can't get fourth. I don't disagree with this, but with the way we play in Europe I don't really see us winning the EL anytime soon. Even when we do put out a strong team we usually...

Of course winning isn't easy, but to ignore individual performances just because we got the three points sounds like madness to me.

Fifth/sixth. I watched him clean up the mess left behind by Boas, save Villa from relegation and lead them to Wembley. Seems like you dislike Sherwood as a person, which seems to influence your view of his actual performances. I don't think Sherwood is the saviour he himself seems to think...

Why actually? As far as CL qualification goes I'm not convinced winning the EL is actually the easier route for us. Top 4 seems wide open with the madness going on at Chelsea.

    *** OMT Spurs v Aston Villa ***

Sure, it's impressive that he manages to perform so well at his age, but at the end of the day the first team is about instant results, so Poch needs to select on who he thinks will perform the best, regardless of age. If that's Alli in his mind: fine. Considering how Mason played thus far...

    *** OMT Spurs v Aston Villa ***

He did some good stuff, things also went wrong. It wasn't absolutely fantastic, Kane and Eriksen were that, not Alli. It was a decent performance, but that doesn't make him undroppable. Mason is the guy that went off injured by scoring a goal for us, people seem to forget how well he did already.

It's not about sending a message, dispiriting, lol. Dembele will be back in against Arsenal for sure. It's not about sending a message to him, it's about doing what makes sense from a tactical viewpoint. I don't think he is at his best against teams that park the bus (which I expect Villa to do...

    *** OMT Spurs v Aston Villa ***

Just because a team won the previous match doesn't mean everyone should automatically keep their place. Alli and Rose weren't that great on Sunday and with the competition we have in the squad that could be enough to get benched for the next match. Dembele as I said to be left out for tactical...

    *** OMT Spurs v Aston Villa ***

It would not surprise me if Poch starts with the same 11 as he did against Bournemouth, not convinced that's the best thing to do now though. Not sure Dembele will be that effective against a Villa team that's likely to come here for a point and sit back. Would also prefer some width and pace...

I follow Ajax, FDB actually said he turned them down.

People seemed to be happy enough for Pochetino to finish sub-top and early eliminations from the FA-cup and EL, I don't see why that should be any different for Sherwood. Yeah, he wouldn't have lead us to the PL title, but he would have done a decent job.

Lol, no he wouldn't. De Boer said no to a team like Liverpool, he's not going to leave Ajax halfway into the seaaon for Villa.

And watch Townsend as a 10? No thanks. Hoddle already failed here as a manager, giving him the job would've been the ultimate "I give up for this season" statement from Levy. Sherwood was worth a try imo. Did a decent job and might have continued doing it for Spurs if he got a chance.

    Schedules

Of course, but we don't have that. Unbelievable really, the one time we actually get a Monday night match we don't have a Thursday evening EL game beforehand. Which makes the Monday night match rather pointless and actually a disadvantage to us. Villa still get enough time to recover from their...

I think it was mostly because Rose could rest during the International break, while Davies was playing for Wales.

    Ratings vs Monaco away

Could have done better with the goal, distribution wasn't great and failed to push the ball to the side twice, luckily Vertonghen and Rose paid attention. Vorm got slaughtered for the very same thing against Arsenal. Lloris is a top GK, but this was a poor match from him.

    Toby Alderweireld

Dawson made many more wrong long passes than Alderweireld currently does. Toby is a level above in the execution of these things. You also rarely see him hoof the ball upfield for the sake of it, unlike Dawson. That said, I didn't have much of a problem with Dawson playing long balls...
