2015/16 Europa League - Round of 16: Borussia Dortmund

Lol, the EL is clearly more disruptive than the CL, you just seem to have a different idea on the word many. Nobody is actually saying that the CL doesn't have an impact either on League form. But compared to the EL it's actually pretty shocking that it benefits teams more. The biggest...

2015/16 Europa League - Round of 16: Borussia Dortmund

Right now you are right, there is no point for us not to be in the EL. Okay, it effects our league form, but we won't make top-four anyway. Those people did have a point in the previous years though, especially under AVB we failed to get top-four due to the EL in particular.

    Mousa Dembele

That's a bit of an overreaction. Dempsey was a reasonable effective player, though his overall play left a lot to be desired, but was he really missed that much? Chadli is doing what Dempsey did for us and more. And to a lesser extend the same applies to Siggy with Chadli/Eriksen. As for Parker...

2015/16 Europa League - Round of 16: Borussia Dortmund

It's not really that we are to good for it. But we have seen in the past what for an impact it can have on our league form. Personally I would take the EL serious this year, simply because we are not going to get top-four anyway. But there is no denying that it has costed us in the past. In...

2015/16 Europa League - Round of 16: Borussia Dortmund

I am not so sure Bill Nicholson would have been that impressed by what the Europa League turned out to be.

    Jan Vertonghen

The thing is if he stayed on his feet like suggested, he would probably have complained about not sliding in to prevent the cross, lol.

    Jan Vertonghen

One of the better players on the day, yet you look for the negatives all the time, great 'support'.

    Official - Holtby

I certainly wouldn't mind to have him back. I would rather have him as back-up and competitor to Eriksen than Paulinho, that is for sure.

    Ben Davies

It's easy to put it down to form issues. He has shown a clear reluctance to get forward, even when he apparently was on form he never contributed that much to the offensive side. I simply don't think it's part of his playing style and unless he can adapt, or alternatively Poch will, it remains...

    Ben Davies

You don't have to be quick, it's useful, but not vital. You do need to get up and down the flank though, something which Davies hasn't been willing to do. I don't know why, but he is very reluctant to go on the attack, Blind is different in that regard. As for Blind btw, he would probably suffer...

    Ben Davies

Rose is much better defensively as a full-back, offensively I am not sure. Vertonghen's crossing is much better for example. He is smarter with his passing as well.

    Ben Davies

Vertonghen is offensively the best player we have at LB, defensively he isn't suited to that position though.

    Ben Davies

Blind actually does get forward, that is the main difference. Sure, Blind is pretty damn slow, but that doesn't stop him from going on the overlap, he is a very smart player. Davies on the other hand seems reluctant to do that. Blind is much more offensive-minded than Davies has shown to be this...

    Ben Davies

It is if we continue with this style of play of having inverted wingers in front of him. Maybe if you put Townsend there it could work, but if we continue with our current system I have my doubts.
  15. C

    Ben Davies

Yeah he bad a decent game at CB, in our system (although we didn't play like that against Burnley) he probably makes a better CB than he does a full-back.

    Jan Vertonghen

That is up for debate. I like Dier but he has hardly been briliant either recently. It was just two matches ago were he played a big part in all three goals conceded against United. And against Leicester he lost a worrying amount of headers. Both need to step up. I am not sure whether Fazio is...

    No case for the defence

Mason isn't good enough technically to play as a number 10 imo. For all his work-effort he lacks a bit of vision imo.

    No case for the defence

They havs 't exactly covered themselves in glory though, have they? I know your personal dislike of Vertonghen prevents you from looking at matches objectively, but it's hardly just Vertonghen alone making the mistakes here. Both Nabil and Ryan have been equally guilty of pretty big mistakes...

    Jan Vertonghen

What do you suggest he should do then? Stay in position and allow that player all the time and space in the world to pick out a pass?

    No case for the defence

We simply play far to offensively. Full-backs who play as wingers, wingers who aren't that bothered at tracking back to cover, a high-line and no DM. Wescore much more than we used to, but the defence suffers as a result.
