That's interesting. As somebody who had no prior knowledge of the phrase and therefore interpreted it purely at it's face value, I actually found the specific targetting of looters (as opposed to more general protesters) quite nuanced by Trump's standards. Not to mention appropriate.

    Black Lives Matter

It's phrased appallingly, but it's basically a warning to those involved in looting (and those who may be tempted to join in) that a strong law enforcement response will follow if they do not desist. Would you prefer he gave no warning of this intention?

I'm not sure it's been necessary for a while now, but I imagine they'll be concerned about the signal reducing them down might send.

Starmer could've earned my respect here, if only his substance had mirrored his words. If he really feels this way, shut down the Cummings questioning and actually talk about the "easing of restrictions and doing that safely", if that really is what we should be "focussing on". But of course...

Aren't Scotland introducing something very similar? I don't think they could be accused of the same sort of motivation you're proposing. I'm therefore minded to see it as nothing more than the intended progression.

    Buy the dip.

More than 1200 points up from the low it touched. What does everyone think? Has the buying opportunity come & gone?

She basically wanted to ask the scientific advisors to comment on Cummings. Johnson wouldn't allow the question to go to them, as it was obviously political (and she pretty quickly got bounced off the screen).

Good to see Johnson shut down Kuensberg there too.

Looks like the antibody study is putting the estimate for the cumulative number of infections in the UK at about 4.5 million (with the upper end of the confidence interval touching 6 million).

    Black Lives Matter

I didn't think you were joking. I was genuinely shocked that you would be surprised that bystanders (many or most of whom I would speculate didn't witness the entire incident, and so would have been unable to accurately assess what was happening) didn't intervene by attacking armed police...

You're right. In fact, I can just see the Mirror's front page now... 'Cummings breaks the rules - but he's admitted it, so lets leave it there'

    Quitting Cigarettes

I've been given up for about 13.5 years now (40+ a day for 10 years prior to that). I felt the way you describe for a long time. Several years after quitting, I'd still get the occasional craving. After a nice meal out I think was the one that lasted the longest. But honestly, at this point, I...

If you're suggesting that would help me to see a grey situation as either black or white, I think I'm better off as I am thanks.

Haven't you ever looked out of your window and been uncertain as to whether it's actually raining or not? I know I have.

That's interesting - they've just been talking on bbc news a few minutes ago as if required self-isolation is covered by SSP, which is in line with my memory/understanding of the situation immediately prior to lockdown. This clearly could present a financial issue for some. The flip side is...

I'd imagine that'd be an SSP situation (with the gov't temporarily covering SSP in this instance) - wasn't that what was announced back in the beginning? Only going from (hazy) memory so could be wrong.

I still believe there's a significant difference between (possibly) infringing the rules relating to childcare for infected parents, and sticking two fingers up at the public from your holiday home without even a decent cover story for it.
