    Coronavirus

There's plenty of blame to fairly share round. The government no doubt shoulder a good proportion of it but sections of the public have acted less than responsibly too, in a variety of ways. Then of course, there's the original source of all this... Unfortunately, too many people want to target...

Sick sick world what is wrong with people

Yeah I wasn't referring to the murder/manslaughter debate. More that any human being who is capable of behaving in the manner that video clip suggests after being responsible for someone else's death, deserves no leniency whatsoever from the justice system in my opinion (that's also assuming...

    The Cricket Thread

Can't be many better compliments to receive for a young English batsman. Bell at his best was fantastic.

Sick sick world what is wrong with people

Absolutely sickening. Did that occur after the verdict? The judge should haul them back in & increase their sentences to the maximum possible level (no idea whether that's actually possible, but anyway...) Scum.

    Coronavirus

I'd love to think you'd be right, but in general terms things seem to me to have been going in very much the opposite direction recently - everything's the government's fault, fuelled by a media that are constantly prompting people to scream & squeal about one thing or another. Personal...

https://news.sky.com/story/coronavirus-obesity-increases-the-risk-of-death-from-covid-19-phe-study-says-12035847 Is this news? Seriously? Obesity has been on the vulnerability list for months, hasn't it? Edit. Ok, perhaps the devil in is the detail. This seems to be reducing the BMI threshold...

    Baseball Season

Looked down on a packed, floodlit Fenway Park from the top of the Prudential building in Boston during a game a few years back. Was quite a sight, but that was close enough for me.

Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

I'm the opposite - haven't spent much time in Paris, but find it impossible to look past New York on this debate. If I had a magic wand & could erase the events of the past few months, it'd be the first place I'd head to after doing it.

    Black Lives Matter

I'd be more than happy with any description they wish to use, provided they keep it factual.

    Black Lives Matter

Referring to the group as 'white police officers'. I'm pretty sure that's just plain incorrect, not only 'to me'.
  11. P

    Black Lives Matter

The simple fact that it's incorrect, and therefore creates a false impression of an incident at the centre of pretty much the most sensitive issue in the world.

    Black Lives Matter

No joke was intended on my part. I was referring to the inflammatory description of the group as 'white police officers'. I personally haven't heard the media describe this incident in this way since it became clear in the days afterward that it wasn't actually accurate.

    Black Lives Matter

So a BBC news report a few minutes ago contained the words "...George Floyd's death at the hands of white police officers back in May..." I'm no fan of the BBC, but I'd usually trust them to get simple facts right...

    Coronavirus

Beat me to it. That's my clear memory of that week or so in March, leading up to the full lockdown when the restrictions were being phased in - virtually nothing changed in terms of many people's behaviour. I clearly recall going into my office (we are an essential service), and out & about it...

They certainly were openly ridiculed for stressing the importance of handwashing. I could name names but I won't - I don't mean you.

    Coronavirus

Weren't the government pilloried on here for placing too much emphasis on the first two of those measures earlier on in the piece?

    Coronavirus

The obvious response being that anyone who makes a statement like this doesn't understand the responsibilities senior management positions can bring.

Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

What? You mean you actually want us to pay back some of this money you're giving us?! What an utterly outrageous, offensive suggestion...

    Coronavirus

Scara's touched on it above, but this is a massive, sweeping assumption that I strongly suspect will unravel over time. Of course, it's being taken as read by the media that people, en masse, can work just as effectively from home, and that isn't really being challenged right now because it's...
