How are your nerves holding up?

I posted a thread at the start of the season called The Power of Expectation or some brick like that. But basically I was trying to point out that we need to be careful of the above i.e people coming away off the back of a very successful season unhappy due to a shift in their expectations mid...

    Mourinho - What Next?

Was going to mention Porto, but wasn't exactly sure of the in's and out's of how much he actually spent relative to the size of them as a club. But yeh, I agree, it was. Yep!

    Jan Vertonghen

I doubt that's the case, but then again neither of us can know as you say. Poch seems pretty good at getting the best out of players though, so maybe if the relationship has broken down it's not beyond saving. Lets just hope Wimmer or Toby don't get injured!

    Andros Townsend

I doubt they would even get a medal anyway even if they had played enough games for the league winning club. That would just seem a bit silly to me.

    Jan Vertonghen

Worst case scenario Wimmer or Toby get injured, at least Fazio has been training with the team all season, understands the system and is at the required fitness levels (or as near as he can be without getting games). Someone from the outside isn't.

    Mourinho - What Next?

How do you know? He's never really managed a club without a huge budget.

    Tom Carroll

I always thought he was fudging awful. A legend mind, but fudging awful at football.

I liked Erik Lamela before it was cool

Yeh, although his ordinary performances for me don't yet merit him being dropped. If he was back to last season Lamela then they would. But he's not. Son is looking good though, a few more stand out sub performances and he's sure to get another chance. It could probably be for any of the 3...

I liked Erik Lamela before it was cool

The corner thing has been done to death. Many of his assists have been well timed through balls and that's only the ones that count as assists because the player actually finished them. Eriksen has been at least as bad lately, but the funny thing about it is that neither of them have been that...

    Tom Carroll

Maybe I just missed it. In general when I see him in situations he's not a player where I think 'he's going to lose possession here because he's not strong enough'.

    Tom Carroll

This comes up all the time on here. Yet I don't really recall him being muscled off the ball much and I don't recall him ducking out of challenges either. Looks to me like people have looked at his slight build and went 'yeh, strength of a kitten'. Pretty much the same thing they done with...

I liked Erik Lamela before it was cool

There is a reason everything goes through him, because he has ability. By virtue of that, he's trying some things that others wont. Some stuff won't come off, some will. The idea being that when the stuff does come off it benefits us greatly (he creates a chance, or scores a goal) and when...

    Tom Carroll

s Love the way he uses space to his advantage too. There was a moment in the second half where he looked like he was about to get crowded out and he dropped his shoulder and let the ball run past him without even touching it, suddenly he was in acres and able to pick out a lovely pass to...

I liked Erik Lamela before it was cool

He really hasn't. I struggle to understand why anyone would think that. Forgetting about the assists, goals etc, just looking at him playing he's moving the ball quicker, taking up better positions and playing at a much higher level than he was before.

    Mauricio Pochettino - Sacked

Funny I've noticed in the last couple of games that the cameras have panned onto him seemingly appearing back out of the dressing room, which would be normal if it happens just after half time, but it's normally half way through the 2nd half!

Park the Bus / Sit back and hit them on the break

I think that is probably part of it. Fair point on the first paragraph. On the second one I agree that the old fashioned clubs like Villa and Saudi Sportswashing Machine have been left behind. Although I'd like to wait to the end of the season to evaluate the 'rise' of the forward thinking ones. Swansea look...

Park the Bus / Sit back and hit them on the break

Does anyone else think that the money in football nowadays has a fair bit to do with this. The top teams (including us) have so much more money, and such better players than the lesser teams that the only chance lesser teams have for a result is to 'park the buss and hit them on the break'.

    Mousa Dembele

Even under AVB he didn't always do that though. As I said previous his issue was not knowing when to release the ball and when to hold on to it rather than holding on to the ball when he shouldn't or not playing the easy ball. There were also many occasions under AVB where the 'easy' pass in...

    Mousa Dembele

I think he probably always seen the passes, just didn't know when to hold on to and when to release the ball (or couldn't make a decision on it quick enough). Again, in the specific example that I gave, I can't see how a manager could seriously want him not to put someone through on goal no...
