Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

Quite. AVB was and perhaps should have been a great fit. After Jol and Redknapp had pulled us out of the doldrums and made the Big 4 into a Big 6, he could have been the young modern manager who could have grown with us and taken us to glory. Instead, it all went wrong and we ended up...

Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

This is absolutely my worry. That Angeball is a brilliant system in lesser leagues, but has weaknesses that PL-quality teams can exploit. By that I include the higher quality of player (e.g. able to press more effectively or to break our line with a killer pass), management (e.g. having a team...

    Our cooperation with Westerlo

Fitting, considering that half our squad seems to be going through A Song of Ice and Physio.

This, absolutely. If you're going to be a top side, you either need a squad of megastars paid an absolute brickload to not sulk or otherwise rock the boat, or you need a few solid players like Davies who can do a job. Look at the scrutiny that Dragusin was under when he got sent off recently...

***OMT Tottenham Hotspur vs Emirates Marketing Project ***

I was just going to say that. A chance created by an individual through a defensive error, rather than one that came about due to good team play. Although you could argue that the whole forward line forced the error through a strong press. But anyway, Emirates Marketing Project really must hate us these days. We're...

    U23s, Academy and Loanees

I mean, you can only beat what's in front of you... ...but this lad is absolutely SMASHING them! I've never paid much attention to the Belgian league, but it's basically "best of the rest" on the UEFA rankings -- ranked 8th, behind England, Spain, Germany, Italy, France, Holland, and...

Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

Just like the 0-1 defeat against Arsenal didn't suddenly make us a terrible team (I believe they're statistically the best defence in the Prem so it's no surprise that they made us look toothless), so the 3-0 kicking of ManU doesn't make us world-beaters. I'm still concerned that Ange's system...

    Dejan Kulusevski

It's weird. Kulu does lovely creative stuff full of deft touches yet manages to look like some sort of ungainly ginger clogger while doing so. I mean, the touch for his goal was stunning. The sort of thing that you see Bergkamp doing in compilations of great goals. But somehow, Kulusevski made...

    Brennan Johnson

The thing is, he's rapid. While the MotD commentators may highlight Dalot not tracking him properly for the goal, There really aren't many defenders who could keep up with Johnson on that run. Couple that with VdV's blistering pace, and you've got a backline stretched beyond breaking point. If...

    Rodrigo Bentancur

I f***ing love a boring shield in front of the defence!

Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

Weird, compared to how it was all going this time last season. This sort of system will always go to pot if the players aren't busting a gut. Hopefully tonight will be the catalyst for some good times. I really think we just need a jammy goal or two to help us along.

    Ben Davies

£5m off the next VDV? That's pretty much the point I was making. For every VDV, who comes in and looks like a world-beater immediately, you've got bunch of young foreign defenders who really don't. Davies is a known quantity -- for that sort of money, I'd rather keep him. Besides which, VDV...

    Ben Davies

But could we? £5M for an experienced player guaranteed to fit into our squad, who knows how to handle the Prem and has an excellent attitude. And counts as partially homegrown. Doesn't sound so easy now. Sure, you can find a foreign player for that, or a youngster, or someone from the lower...

    Brennan Johnson

Some players have the knack of making things happen when they come on as substitutes. It's not just being able to take advantage of tired legs -- it's also following the manager's instructions, but equally it can be reading the game from the bench well enough to figure out what you have to do.

I'm just praying that he doesn't turn out to be another Darren Bent.

    Lucas Bergvall

Popped in just to say this, having watched a couple of short highlights videos. His weight of pass is superb -- and that's how to open up a defence. Eriksen was superb at that. However, Bergvall was given so much space as Hearts barely pressed him. That won't happen in the Prem.

It's bloody amazing, but I can't have been paying attention as I really don't remember any significance to the number 15.

    Copa America 2024

I went with some mates to the Nou Camp in 2012 as we decided we wanted to see Pep's great Barca team (incl. Messi) play before it was too late. It ended up being Pep's last home game, against Espanyol. They won 4-0 with Messi pretty much untouchable -- except for the two (maybe three) penalties...
