FA Cups in 1901 (only non league team to win it since football league was created) and again 1921 (year after winning the second division).... I did some reading up on the history since @DubSpur called me out earlier in the thread :)

A friend of mine played against Teddy Sherringham in a pre season friendly. Said he couldn't believe how Teddy got to the ball ahead of him every single time and had often laid it off and moved to receive the return before he'd even had time to adjust to him controlling the ball. He said it...

Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

It didn't look bad when he was first at the club. Even under Mourinho he played well for a little while, it was a bit of the way into that season when things really took a step for the worse.

He had ridiculous amounts of talent. Nice and two footed, could receive the ball in tight spaces and beat players from a standing start on both sides. He also had really good vision and pass execution. He actually started well for us, though showed quite early that you could kick him out of...

Playing with real positional discipline can make up for that.

The two that hurt the most were probably the Blackburn League Cup final and the Portsmouth FA Cup semi final. Obviously we've lost higher profile semis and finals than those two, as well as losing semis and finals to more hated teams. However, these were the two games where I felt that overall...

Maybe we can instead see a number pallendrome, with us winning a pot this decade, 2 in the 2030s, 3 in the 2040s, etc.... Just a shame I won't be around to see our glorious 2060s decade when we win 5 pots including the double!

I was really just trying to point out that I didn't think it was particularly fair to compare our trophies now with the entire period of our history considering we weren't really one of the big boys for a fair chunk of that history. Maybe some think it is fine for a club of our prestige to win...

Not sure that is fair to be honest. I apologised for my error and then posted how many seasons we spent in the top flight in that period?

Pleaty was the one that had recommend Clarke. To be fair to Pleat - Clarke is now showing that he is a good player.

I've been told by somebody that I really trust and who was likely to know that Pochettino wanted us to sign Sessegnon a year earlier than we did (he wanted to gradually ease him in replacing Danny Rose). Bottom line is that our recruitment structure was a mess back then. It was something...

Re: this comment.... Wigan ARE a lower league club. That is their natural place. Wigan's FA Cup win was a massive over achievement for them. Wigan even being in the premier league was a huge achievement for them, that alone was probably a bigger achievement for them than it would be for us...

Ah yes apologies. I see that we spent 16 years in total in the top flight between our formation in 1882 and our promotion in 1950. I had thought we'd won the 1921 FA Cup while in the second division but see we got promoted the season before (and then relegated again in 1928).

I don't think he wanted Clarke at all (evidenced by him immediately getting loaned out (Poch never loaned out players he actually wanted). Ndombele also started well for him. That one may well have turned out very different had Poch not been sacked. Sessegnon was a good player just unlucky...

Yes indeed I do know that. I also know that they are not doing it out of the kindness of their hearts but instead to make themselves richer as a result of asset growth. ENIC have done this because it was the best way for them to become richer. I'm also always really concerned when somebody...

While Spurs won a few honours before being a top division club I do think it a trifle unfair to include Spurs' time before they became a top division club when trying to compare relative success. Since THFC's first promotion to the top division in 1951 until the point that Levy took over in the...

    The Stats Thread

I can't believe that every team in the league isn't copying Arsenal's corner routine. Put three players past the back of the far post who's job is simply to time their runs to come in and block the opposing keeper as the corner kicking is striking the ball. Then have 4 big physical players all...

Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

Just so I’m clear here…. You want to tax private landlords so highly that they have to dump their assets on to the market, thus reducing the price of housing, likely causing a negative equity situation for a huge number of home owners and also resulting in large numbers of private tenants being...

    OMT ** Tottenham Hotspur v Brighton - Sunday 6 October at 4.30 pm **

Indeed. That is why I think a true, top class defensive midfield player would be transformational for this team. I think Gray will end up being a superb defensive midfield player and I'd like to see him getting minutes in that position now in the Europa league.
