Pedro Porro

What a turnaround this has been for Porro, from fighting relegation with Spurs two months ago, to fireing Spain into the WC final tonight. Really happy for him.

Not even like he's been a passenger - man has been ridiculously solid, arguably Spain's best defender, up against the likes of Portugal, Belgium, and now France.

None of them could get past the guy (well, aside from.Belgium, but that goal came down the other side).

Part of it is that international football is just less advanced than the Prem is. But I am praying that he's finally comfortable in a back four, and that this World Cup is the moment where he transitions from wing back with some defensive frailties, to just all-round world class right back.

I remember last season people questioning whether we have any World class players. Given that Porro will be in the Team of the Tournament, surely this gives rise to him being World class? I mean if you reach the World Cup Final and are statistically one of the best players at the Tournament, what else is required? It just shows we’ve not always seen the best of him for us.

I’ve always backed him but can understand the criticism from others. Let’s see what De Zerbi can get from him this season.

Was thinking the same. We've spent the entire WC talking about Spence, whilst Porro has quietly taken care of business and will be in that team of the tournament.

In some ways because of the burden on these 2 guys bodies, it would be worth doing a lot of rotation until they've recharged and refreshed. Pedro must really need to be careful that he doesn't spend much more time in the red zone and find himself injured.

We have the makings of a very good defence 😊

Spain have broken the record for the most clean sheets at a World Cup tourney and Porro is the highest rated defender on WhoScored, we’re going to be impregnable next season ✋ If we can sort out an elite CF we should be challenging for EPL 😁

I don't think Porro gets enough credit for how fit he has stayed for us. A club who have constantly suffered big injuries, and yet his 3 full seasons at Spurs he has played in 35,33 and 34 out of the 38 games starting most of them. We are lucky to have him, and his attitude is fantastic....

Alot of that is luck because I have also thought its ridiculous for our fans to criticise players for being injured, players don't control it

There's an element of luck, but not all players condition themselves the same. And when you are played week in and week out without rest to maintain his levels he deserves credit for. He has been overplayed and I hope Spence is used to rotate more this season....

The majority is luck and genetics, players won't get away with not keeping a level with sports science and scrutiny from their club. Thats why it is always a ridiculous notion when people hammer players for repeating injuries

Like with anything, there are levels. And personally I've not seen anyone hammer a player for constantly getting injured so can't comment on that - People will complain about a player often getting injured but doesn't mean they are blaming the player himself as like you say it's partly down to genetics. But when you have such players, you are inevitably going to want rid of them....

I agree with your point largely, but Udogie is one who springs to mind for getting grief for his injuries. Richarlison too.
