25/26 Injury and illness thread

Andros Townsend on the BBC Football podcast said the medical staff was viewed as poor when he was at the club. That the players would constantly get different prognosis from the outside specialists. Suggested department was not properly funded.

“In my head it goes back to the Europa League semi-final here when I got injured here because I did a partial ACL tear against Bodo/Glimt,” Maddison told a group of reporters, including The Athletic, after Spurs’ game against Leeds United on Monday. “I was told by the (external) specialist it wouldn’t need surgery and rehab. Then obviously it wasn’t strong, it didn’t recover properly and I needed the full surgery which is what happened in South Korea. So in my head it’s not really been like that it’s been longer.”

I'm glad he bluntly calls out the injury situation. We need a complete overhaul of the medical department to make sure we get to the bottom of our injury troubles and fix it properly.

If we manage to reduce our injuries to the PL average or better, whoever we bring in to make that happem will be our best signing this sunner.

Could impact our ability to sign players. I’m sure potential signings may look at our injury record and decide no thanks if they have no confidence in our ability to keep them fit.
