+++ OMT Tottenham Hotspur v Sunderland 12th April 2026 +++

The passing around the back to create the trap for the transition is so important to his style though. The keeping abilities are pretty much secondary. We know Kinsky is a good long passer, but what's his dummies and teo footedness etc. like? And Austin and Gunter are complete unknowns on that front
I doubt he'll be going all out on his normal style. He's not going to ask players to be over playing at the back when confidence is already low.

I think it'll be a shape they've worked on and encouragement to play with courage.
Make Sunderland beat us, rather than beating themselves.

Doesn’t sound like Kudus will be ready.

Kinsky
Romero Danso VDV
Porro Gallagher Gray Bergvall Udogie
Solanke Tel

Austin, Dragusin, Spence, Souza, Bissouma, Sarr, Olusesi, Xavi, Richarlison

If he lines up with 3 at the back, we might as all shoot ourselves in the head and spare the misery

Its a crap formation - defenders are in the wrong places, midfielders are permanently outnumbered and forwards don't have the support to do an effective press.

After Amorim and others, there's also a huge toxicity around using it now

I’d rather get the strongest 10 players on the pitch and I don’t think anyone would argue if you ranked a 1-10 of our fit squad that Romero, VDV & Danso would be in it. We also do not have a right winger right now.

I think formations are over stated but the exciting football I’ve seen both the teams I support (Spurs 16-17 & England 98) and the best football I’ve played personally was in a 352 as well.

3 at the back can mean 1 at the back and 2 as DMs - from what i see dezerbiball is fluid and prioritizes many triangle formations to support link up play

the one thing i am sure we sill see is an improvement in transition into attack, because he pays special attention to body shape and facing a lot to spring attacks

Yep it’s only more defensive if that’s how the team plays it.

I actually think it is an incredibly tough team selection. RDZ mentions that he's watched a bunch of footage of us. He would therefore see that Danso has been one of our better players. I think the mistake Tudor made was not going with his own preferred formation and that was a back 3. He had very legit reasons not doing that based on sending offs and injuries, not to mention Udogie's injury woes on the left. In the end he seemed to settle on 4-4-2.

In reality, RDZ has more available players than Tudor and probably needs to put them in his preferred shape even if it's not implementing his full tactics. I think that means something like a 4-2-3-1. Normally, if you find the shape first then you can add the tactical pieces on top over time. I have a feeling the first thing he'll do is be drilling Porro, Romero and Udogie to defend first, attack second.
