American politics

In 40-50-60 years time or so, in whatever new nation(s) have risen on the ashes of the USA, there will be people busy tearing down the Donald Trump monuments that will be erected when dear leader dies.

Bannon is now being overt about their intention for Trump to remain supreme leader beyond his second term…

And they’re going to have their “National Guard Response Force” deployed in all 50 states before the mid-term elections, so feck knows if the Democrats will be able to muster up any proper response judging by how incompetent they’ve shown themselves to be.

If this continues down the same path, it will end with a civil war.

My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings;
Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!"
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.

Small margin actually. But I don't think America is ready for a black woman president. As we can see now it is a country full of racists.

They’ve elected a black man president (twice) so why not? Maybe Americans just didn’t want to elect THAT black woman. Or the previous woman (Hilary). I think it’s ok to acknowledge that they were both pretty terrible candidates, even if they would have done a good job if elected.

The brick you are seeing now is reaction to that black man being elected.

But that doesn’t detract from the fact that they elected him multiple times in the first place. There will always be racist idiots in the world just like there will always be crime. Kamala was a terrible candidate and didn’t do herself any favours during the campaign. That doesn’t mean America wouldn’t elect a black woman. Michelle Obama would stand a far greater chance of being elected if she were to run. And Hilary with her “basket of deplorables” comments was ill advised, even if it is true. The democrats have an image problem IMO. They’re seen as elitist snobs by some people. I’m still hoping that Andrew Yang returns to the party and makes a run for president. He’s a sensible, moderate person and is also practical which is another thing the democrats sorely need.

Clinton was a terrible choice to run.
As for her deplorables soundbite, well is it deplorable to investigated for fraud and be the only one not convicted, is it deplorable to be the enabler of a sexual abuser?

I think Pete Buttigieg would be a great candidate too, but equally is Gilead not going to vote for an openly gay person anytime this century

Trump appointees doing MAGA things… by the time Hegseth has the National Guard Response Force operational they’ll probably have people arrested for not agreeing with such views.

Yes, it was a great day for the US to elect a black man president but I doubt he would get elected today. Michele Obama? Zero chance, not that she would run anyway. Yang is a chalatan IMO.

While Obama was having his inauguration the Koch brothers were meeting in Indian Wells with their billionaire white supremacy buddies, making plans to undermine Obama at every turn and, more importantly, fixing things to make sure this would never happen again. The hierarchy they envisaged was not the pluralistic egalitarian society that America was growing into (albeit very slowly). That was antithetical to their vision of America. They see America as a hierarchical ethno-state dominated by the white Christian patriarcy. So what started with the Tea Party movement and has grown into a rampant fascism with unfettered racism on full display at every turn. We are at the point now where the Supreme Court is rather effectively dismantling the VRA piece by piece.

When one side sees the other side as illegitimate in a two party system, democracy does not function. That is America now. This is a recent comment from the speaker of the house. “We refer to it by its more accurate description: The Hate America Rally. You’re gonna bring together the Marxists, the socialists, the antifa advocates, the anarchists, and the pro-Hamas wing of the far-left Democrat Party. That is the modern Democratic Party.” Deplorable seems rather tame by comparison to the constant stream of bile spewing from the current administration.

What about AOC, the Squad and the socialist running for mayor of New York?
I think she might run for senate against one of the dem old guard in NY soon enough. And if she is not taken out, I could see her as a presidential candidate one day. Great politician IMO and you can tell how much the right fear her based on the amount of time they spend trying to demonise her.

I think Michelle Obama could get elected. She’s definitely more electable IMO than Kamala and Hilary. Just out of interest, did you think Kamala was a good candidate? I just completely disagree with the implication that she only lost because America is racist. Even her book title makes her come across like a victim. I’ve not read it, but from the reviews I’ve seen there’s barely an acknowledgment that she did anything wrong. For example, like going on SNL a few days before the election. Most of the people that watch that show be democrats, what’s the point of going on a show where you know the votes are in the bag already? Why not go on Joe Rogan? He’s got the biggest podcast audience in the world. From all accounts he did invite her on the show. To use a football analogy, it’s a bit like wanting to win the premier league but refusing to play an away game. Go on his show and try and win people over.

I do have perspective, I want the democrats to win elections as long as the republicans don’t believe in democracy or climate change. That doesn’t mean that I’m blind to the flaws that the democrats have. They’re seen as the party of no common sense. Was Hilary’s “deplorables” comment accurate? Probably, but by saying it you’re throwing votes away. Katie Porter had the same attitude in a recent interview, someone asked her what she needs to do to win over the people that voted for Trump and her attitude was why would I have to win those people over, I don’t need them. It’s not a great attitude to have IMO. That’s why I’d prefer a Gavin Newsom type to win as he seems more willing to engage with the other side.
