Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

It bothers me. But I’m not patriotic. Any religion or institution that covers that sort of thing up as the Catholic Church did and probably still does needs calling out. But as it’s a religion they get away with it because you don’t criticise religion. Even people like richard Dawkins who criticises all religions gets pulled up for singling certain religions out.
I do slightly lean towards religions without gods or institutions. So Taoism and Quakers are my favourites

I just think always punch up. So aim at the doctrines and especially the institutions, but never the followers

I half agree. I find it strange that people take offence to criticism of a religion which is a set of values, ideas and beliefs.

Don’t agree with the “always punch up part” because who is to say what is punching up and what is punching down.

I think its just humans' comfort blanket, because the implications of the chaos of their being no plan and no purpose is just too scary for many. In contrast I enjoy the feeling of being a random and insignificant accident

I agree that for some, the thought of there not being a plan as such is scary and as such religion can offer a security blanket. And as long as it helps people and doesn't hurt them, fantastic. I have no issues with anyone who wishes to peacefully follow their faith/religion, indeed, if it offers comfort and support (again without harming anyone) excellent stuff and I'm happy for folks whio have it in that sense.

I am at peace with what is beyond my control. I don't know where we came from, I don't know what happens when we die beyond the fact our bodies cease to function, I don't know the size of the universe, and my take is that if I was meant to know, then I'd have been given the consciousness to know. I have become increasingly aware of how much there is around me I don't know that is easy to learn about and simply requires some of my attention i.e. plants, birds, insects, nature. I've always been into that stuff, yet there's such a fukkton more that I know nothing about because I haven't spent sufficient time. So my choice (rather than figure out to the root of scriptures or whether the black hole exists/will hurtle us elsewhere if we find it, etc) is to pause and spend time with some of the incredible stuff in front of my eyes. Each to their own of course, if things like the Cern Institute and scripture are your thing, brilliant and perhaps one day I'll learn something about them from you.

I DO know we all have electrical energy and chemical exchanges with all lifeforms, and I further know that (in my case anyway) if I spend proper uninterrupted time and focus in being present with these times, then life feels much richer and more connected. I have always believed strongly that human energy can (and does) create collective consciousness. And that the proliferation of an extreme 'digital and divided' lifestyle continues to place barriers in the way of these vital and often mundane yet important interactions. Even self-checkout eliminates human interaction, and albeit 'tis a small level, it's another step towards making sure people don't have to interact with other human beings face-to-face, and that they can just do so my text, email, and FaceTime. I could go on and on about this, but I'll spare us LOL...I think you get where I'm coming from (I love focussing on the moment, on what I can and cannot control, of accepting what 'is' versus the assumptions which can trip us up)...

I am most certainly a random speck of dust in the grand scheme of things, but I am absolutely at peace with that whilst also feeling it is vital to try and connect with life versus duck it.

I genuinely believe that as long as I continue to work on putting fear and ego in the controlled spaces they need to kept, I will be able to continue my personal mission which is to try and connect with as many people as possible, whether a fleeting 'hello' or a deep friendship. And the more present I can remain -the less distracted by assumptions and the like- the better chance there is of these moments being positive.

...a rare moment of writing a long post in this thread. I used to be here a lot, however it has become quite intimidating and confrontational way beyond discussion. Assumptions and accusations get thrown around and it has dialed me out TBH.

I continue to believe that most people here are good people who all want the same things in life, and that many of the more 'edgy' views expressed on all manner of subjects here come from anxiety and feeling defensive. Here's to hoping we can see it continue to stabilize and that we can all give each other a break more often than we do...

I think as you get older you process thing in a much different way than when you were younger, I think that comes with experience but also facing your own mortality as you get older.

I wouldn't say its edgy to suggest that all religion at the foundations of their writings are rubbish (not saying that was aimed at me) but the longer you live, the more you see and you just work out that all the magic and fairy dust tales which happened in most religion, which has never happened in my life up to now, are more than likely.........unlikely. There is a guy outside Sutton Station who says he is a wizard and I am pretty sure he isn't, although I am likely to believe him as he has all the right attire, above religions that claim some of the rubbish they do.

As a comfort blanket to some, I would never punch up or down to it, as long as those believers are not using the extremism written in religion as literally. My Mum goes to church as its a comfort and a source of community, which I respect and would never disrespect, but if she started using it as a tool to be anti others OR a source or pontification, I would likely have less respect (even though she is my mother).

Thats where the majority of my issue for religions lies, I can deal with it being a load of nonsense and I am ok with it being a structure for some to live their lives by, but if that then becomes issue for others to live their lives with extremist views (which lets be truthful, near all religions have that faction) then I think it losses its "force for good" tag.

In the context of the overall discussion I find it amazing that people fall for the grift of say Russell Brand, who is on probably his 3rd grift, where he has somehow found religion at the same time he is being accused of rape and sexual abuse, I mean most people can see what is happening there in the same way that Lozza Fox now spouts on about Christianity which is clearly just his grift to use it as a tool in his anti Islam armoury. I just find it all properly odd behaviour.

Pretty sure I just heard Penny Morduant using ICE as a good example of dealing with immigration and being pleased that Badenoch's plans are based on what Trump has done with ICE.
:(

I'd like the see the British ICE - the Institution of Civil Engineers - given that job. "Build the wall, build the wall" might actually get done!

I mean at least Starmer used time and lies to get into power, had that about him at least despite being useless now

She just seems intent on killing what's left of the Tories
I'm all for the demise of the Tories, but Starmers' move to occupy the centre-right void vacated by the Tories is also a losing strategy. They need shot of McSweeney before Labour delivers the UK into the hands of UKIP, or whatever that company is called now.

Oh Don't get me wrong, I think Labour are truly up the creek now, 100%
