Fabio Paratici remains a consultant to
Tottenham Hotspur after accepting a suspended prison sentence as part of a settlement agreement aimed at finally freeing him of the Juventus financial controversy.
Telegraph Sport understands that there has been no change to Paratici’s contracted consultancy agreement with Spurs and that he will continue to work with the club in the same role he has occupied since
resigning from his jobas managing director of football after being banned from working within the sport.
That ban expired in July and Paratici has now entered into a settlement agreement with Italian prosecutors over the Juventus “Plusvalenza” proceedings – a capital gains case that rocked Italian football in 2021 – that includes the acceptance of an 18-month suspended prison sentence. There was no admission or finding of guilt or acceptance of liability.
Tottenham have not commented on the agreement, but sources close to Paratici stress that acceptance of the suspended prison sentence was made purely to reach the quickest possible settlement that allows the Italian to focus on his career in football and put the Juventus case behind him.
Paratici was sanctioned for his role in alleged accounting irregularities involving transfers at Juventus. It is claimed that his part in the case was an alleged failure to properly account for the value of capital gains arising from player exchanges with other clubs that resulted in the reporting of reduced losses.
He was not a board member at Juventus and was not in charge of accounting matters at the Italian club. He has maintained that he has always acted in accordance with the rules.
Talks are likely to be held over the coming weeks and months over whether or not Paratici resumes a full-time position at Tottenham, but in the meantime he will continue to be used as a contracted consultant.
Having been initially appointed by and worked closely with Daniel Levy, there had been suggestions that the former chairman’s departure from Tottenham could see Paratici stop working with the club.
But that has not been the case and Levy’s exit is not thought to impact Paratici’s future employment with Spurs, whether that be as a contracted consultant or in a full-time capacity.
Paratici is understood to share a good working relationship with Tottenham chief executive Vinai Venkatesham and technical director Johan Lange.
