I agree, think it was a mental thing. I was told by a couple of guys who were ITK at Middlesex he was a fiery character and could upset the dressing room.

You could see that. I also was convinced Bopara would be the next big shorter format world star. He did well enough but I don't think he touched his talent levels

Loved Bopara, arguably my favorite player at one point being an Essex boy, but yea he didn’t quite hit the levels I thought he would internationally.

I’ll trump you with Mark Ramprakash. I met him at a charity do about 10 years ago and, after a few glasses of red wine, plucked up the courage to engage him on not his 42.40 average in Tests vs Austrialia, but about my favourite dance to date on Strictly - his paso doble.
He was understandably taken aback, but it transpired he knew and had done some dancing at the same dance studio in Watford that I had where I’d dabbled in ballroom and Latin - a story for another time! - for a few months! A lovely lovely man, despite his connection to that lot down the road.
I also met Gary Mabbutt at the same event. They say don’t meet your heroes… gonads to that, the man is an absolute gentleman. A beautifully gentle human being.
