Vinai Venkatesham - CEO

He does speak well. The naming of Lewis family members and talking about Charrington is a good touch. The plain explanation about exec and non-exec chairman is good to put out there for the layman.
Publicly talking about calm and stability really indicates that we are unlikely to be seeing a buyout anytime soon.
 
Didn’t actually answer the question of his role though.

Seems its going to he similar to how it was.
 
Lewis family PR machine is gearing up. Much like when a new government is elected they can spend a couple years blaming everything on the previous government, having to unpick and start again.

Goes without saying that I hope they are a success. Just all these CEO interviews are new to us as a fan base. I don’t particularly care what any of these people have to say. I don’t support Spurs because of the chairman

You're right, it just the same as politics.
Identify what the masses aren't keen on.
Then start storytelling around how we will be doing the opposite.

I'm not being cynical...it's just a truth.
Outcomes will serve judgement ultimately

I like Vinai though, but maybe he's just a good communicator.

I heard alot of Levy in his speech to. ................... We have investment .................. We need to get the right price for our players, whilst we get the best deal for incoming................... We need to be mindful of Financial Fair Play

Good/strong communicator but my main takeaway from that is 'business as usual'

I wouldn't expect anything different regarding what was said about the Lewis' and their intentions - the proof will be in the pudding on that one.

Yeah, was clearly the point of this piece to demonstrate Lewis family are going nowhere and it's BAU.

Found it interesting that he said he has known the Lewis family for some time. Gets me wondering if he knew when he took on the job he would be taking over from Levy already....

It shouldn’t be such a ‘thing’ but I at least appreciated the openness and transparency. They, in the space of a few days, put together a video with the CEO answering the key questions that would have been on the top of most people’s minds. I don’t think his answers were wildly interesting, but that feels like a step change in and of itself. I hope that continues. Definitely feel like under the Levy regime they kept their counsel a lot more, and didn’t respond or even say much to some fairly significant events that would happen around the club.

On the substance, I think I agree with the BAU idea in the sense that they’ve put a succession / continuity plan in place. And I think his balanced answer on transfer funds…I read that as toeing the line between wanting fans to be behind the Lewis’s ambition for the club, but also making clear to the market of clubs we deal with that we aren’t going to be splashing cash willy nilly, there will still be discipline in our negotiations.

I do think this summer was a step change from our previous sort of business though, so whether that was due to investment or the Lewis’s having a new strategy, I hope that sort of BAU continues.
 
I think the big change is the subtle one. We went years and years with Joe and Tavistock being silent and Levy being always present but mostly quiet publicly. All the comms came through the 1st team manager. It was clearly an ENIC man running the club and being accountable to.......you've guessed it, mostly ENIC. I think we've ended up way closer to Tavistock and the Lewis's.

What we have now is different. We have the Lewis family more interested than ever, but not Joe obviously. We have a CEO that is more public facing and taking some of the heat from the 1st team manager. We have a Lewis appointment in Charrington who is a director at ENIC but way closer to the Lewis's and Tavistock side due to his Bahamas connections.

My guess is that the Lewis family deeply inspected what they expected NEXT from Levy and ENIC. It was so natural to remove one of his 2 duties i.e. CEO and Chairman. I thought they had bifurcated those 2 roles with the introduction of Vinai. They actually removed both from Daniel and that may have been a willing choice.

I'm still on the fence a little with that one. Perhaps it wasn't.

I'm guessing we could see more "decisive" transfer business? Be willing to pay more (wages and transfer fees) and earlier to get deals done? For me a thing that could have both positive and negative consequences.

Then will be be interesting to see what happens the next time we want a different head coach/manager, DoF type. Those are for me the biggest decisions to get right (assuming VV won't be doing his own scouting either). How confident are people that we'll get them more right more of the time now?

Any other changes we should no on the lookout for?

Bribery and performance enhancing drugs are the quick wins.
 
Just a thought from my business life:

Often a new CEO will come in and do some grand sweeping gesture, their attempt to 'make their mark'.

E.g. they will make an entire team or level redundant. They will merge 2 companies and smash things together to show off and show the board that they are a serious player.

Sometimes you get the feeling they are brought in to do some mad merger which causes huge upset, doesn't really work and then they sack the CEO and he walks off quite happy with a few million quid for causing chaos.

So, I fully expect a merger with West Ham by Christmas. West Hotspur, playing in Claret and White. OK?
