And then we were beaten heavily by Brighton in the last game of the season in spite of playing what was pretty much our strongest available team on the day. We were awful, particularly in the second half. There may have been justification to an extent about why this happened but it doesn’t take from how poor the performance and result were and how poor our league campaign has been, it’s been unacceptable. So suddenly we were presented with this side of Ange and the club in which it’s not all feel good factor, and we have some negativity brewing again with fear for what may happen next season if our league from cannot be rectified. Suddenly the swingometer of support swung against Ange from many again.

I cannot take anyone who tries to analyse the Brighton game seriously. It meant NOTHING! Literally nothing — even if we won, we would have still finished 17th — other than one last chance to celebrate winning a trophy.

I may have meant nothing but it showed one side that’s coached well and heading in a good direction. It showed another side who are trending in the other direction who lack any identity and lack the very basics of a team set up to win games of football.

It showed a team on a 3 day bender vs one chasing Europe! Some of the things you saw may have looked like other games…but it didn’t fudging matter. Stop trying to steal all of our joy.

That performance was what we’ve seen in the league for a long time no different.

Ange has been utterly useless in the league shown up at the premier league level.

The difficulties of the choice facing the board are articulated pretty well here.

As others have said, glad I’m not the one that has to make it.

I think it does nail it to be honest. Ange has delivered us a trophy and CL football, which is a unique opportunity, to invest and supplement the core of very promising young players we have accumulated. We may not get another similar opportunity to complete the rebuild - we've been offered a fast track leg-up back into the elite and I'm not sure anything (and I mean anything) suggest Ange is the man to grasp that opportunity....

I accept that he'll stay and be given the chance to change the course of the ship. I hope things improve.

I don't accept writing off the Brighton game as an outlier of our league performances, or the reasoning that we were concentrating on the cups (outside of rotation) as why we're tactically so poor and easy to create against.

To be fair to Ange, there have been some bizarre situations this season - Bentacur's suspension, Biss's laughing gas (I think that was this season?), Micky and Romero coming back from injury and not lasting a game. Odd, odd very unhelpful stuff. But is Ange tactically astute? Now that the original "Angeball" is long gone, what is his style of play? I guess it comes down to whether a coach with a better track record is willing to join us....

Every game means something or at least it should.

People me included paid to go see it. In what job particularly a well paid job can you down tools like that, it was disgusting.

This is the thing though. It's a repeat of previous patterns. We are never allowed to analyse performances under this guy are we?
- We draw away at Leicester, lose against Saudi Sportswashing Machine, blow a 2-0 lead away at Brighton and lose at Palace with our first choice players available and its "but our underlying stats are good, I can't take anyone seriously analysing these games, just look at our GD"
- Then its "look at the injuries, I can't take anyone seriously analysing these games"
- Then when the players come back its "he's thrown the league to concentrate on the Europa, I can't take anyone seriously analysing these games"
- Then its "guys, its a nothing end of season game, I can't take anyone seriously analysing us being given the absolute run around by a Brighton's second team"

I think this obsession with league posotion is a very modern phenomena. Let's face it we have never really been a league team having only twice been league champions before.

Maybe it's because growing up as a Spurs fan cups were our only hope of success but I've always preferred cup football. I don't ever get aa excited for a league march as I do a Cup Semi or Final for example.

Our glory glory tag is built on cup success. An inconsistent club that are capable of the spectacular and beating anyone on their day.

In 84 when we won the very strong UEFA Cup we only finished 8th in the 1st division. When we last won the FA Cup in 91 we finished 10th. League positions that bow would be considered a failure but did anyone care?

When we watch the highlight reels of our glorious history it's these finals we see. Not the seasons we were consistent in the league, finished top 4 but ultimately won nothing.

Of course 17th is unacceptable but I really don't see that happening again. We finished 5th in Anges first season don't forget which us why we was in a position to win the Europa in the first place. That's 5th in his first season having just lost one of our greatest players of all time.

On the flip side I find it hard to take anyone seriously that can't see beyond the cup win so I'm guilty of that too.

I'm all for giving people a chance but when the over riding evidence has been a decline in results and performances over 2 years with a completely divided fan base then I think its time to part ways.

The question is whether, given the limitations of our squad, a better coach, who has experience of managing 2 games a week, and of winning, is happy to join us? We don't need another Conte, thinking he's doing us a favour.

Why dont you see it happening again? I keep saying it but we got 5th because Ange went his first 10 games unbeaten, posting 8 wins and 24 points. That's over 36% of our season points total in just over 26% of the season's games. Since that fast stat we've seen a steady decline in PPG, that's continued into and through this season. We look very easy for Premier League teams to play against. That's a key thing for me, we consistently look naive and wide open and its got to the point where we are regularly facing over 15 attempts on our goal in a game. We do not look a Premier League quality team.

Take out the first 10 games from that first season of Ange and what have you got?

He is not hood enough and once teams figured him out after those first 10 games we were awful.

Unprecedented - "never done or known before".

Not sure why our manager keeps using this word.

Walking on the moon was unprecedented. Winning a EL cup definitely isn't. It happens every year.

Just saying.

Mixture of reasons..

NUmber of injuries at the same time this season that hopefully doesn't happen again.

Very good young players that are only going to get better with age.

The fact we've shown that we cam do it when at full strength. I'm not only thinking of Europa but results like 4-1 at home vs Villa. 4-0 sway at City etc

And now with the extra money and incentive of CL we can build a stronger squad to cope with injuries and fight stronger in all competitions instead of having to prioritise one.
