Yes, how on earth could we be competitive against a team that couldn't even finish above us in the League stage whilst we was going through an injury crisis....
Our fan base amaze me at times with the negativity
Even when we aren’t playing they will drag it down
I watched Frankfurt at the weekend. They love to shoot, that’s for sure. They wouldn’t have won if stuttgart hadn’t been down to 10 though
They ding care about possession and remind me a lot of Bournemouth

lol - bringing an Ange In and Out thread back to Ange In and Out conversation. We can carry on talking about Ginola if you like.

Do we know he is dead man walking? Do we know that this set of players won't get up for every game? It was 16 Feb against Utd when we had our first semblance of a squad after the injury and fatigue period. We always said there would be a period of those players getting right up to match fitness and form. Well we now enter April and hopefully the pieces should be in place.

It is now contingent on the managers and players to walk the talk. I think we will learn a lot from this point.

The word-smithing / EL connection is yours not mine actually. That was just a general comment by me about Ange comms. However, it's clear that Ange will need to at his motivational best to get these players into the right belief system to win that cup. It is why it just isn't as simple as sacrificing the league to win the cup. You have to use the league to get the momentum for the cups. That is the winning mentality I want to see. Also, those 3 or 4 places in the league are worth a few quid as well.
I'm thinking that the injury situation was soooo looooong and drawn out that apathy has set in. Our league position is pretty awful (although we are safe) but taking time to looking upwards, to where we might be able to reach, is just wasting that time, why bother.

What is bizarre is we've waited for this moment, and in truth it's only really arrived since Vic, Dom, VDV and Romero have been available, yet the positivity is hard to muster. Our performances haven't inspired or given us a glimpse we are climbing the ladder again. It's almost like we've been starved of oxygen for so long the body and brain are never gonna be the same.

Yes, there is that glimmer still left of the EL, and I agree, we can't let league games be just warm-up games...I think most teams thrive better with momentum. (although it's prudent to manage players minutes).

From Anges pov...I think every time he's set a new narrative eg 'climb the league' 'we are still in 3 cups' ...we have failed miserably, and limply.

Got to hope the intl break was a hard reset but i doubt it

Personally that is from me not seeing anything that the returning players are going to slot back in and improve tactically or structually. Chanes are they will play better. But if we had a style of play that I could identify and had been playing in a progressive way, them coming back would be the cherry on the top. Fact is, we've been brick regardless or personnel, so I expect our performances to be more or less the same, and I dislike the way we play so there is no excitment in returning bodies.

On point about Ange being a dead man walking absolutely agree with point about nobody really knowing. One thing that 100% seems to have happened is the leaks from the club seem to have stopped. Nobody seems to be "ITK" and even the journalists that usually have reliable insight seem to have no clue on Ange's future.

We don't know what Lange, Munn and Levy are thinking. There's probably two key "schools of thought" they're considering:
1) That the squad is inexperienced, has been plagued by injuries and Ange deserves another season to see how much he is individually responsible for this season.
2) That he has contributed significantly to the overall problems we've had this season and they believe a change in coach would reap dividends next season.

For all we know (v. likely) there isn't a clear view across senior leadership at the club.

Ultimately Ange's time will be finished when all the key players (Levy, Munn, Lange, and advisors Levy likes to lean on e.g. Paratici) reach a consensus that Ange isn't the man anymore.

Paratici will be interesting. Has he made his mind up yet? Us or milan?
If it is us you can bet he'll be getting a lot of input on who the manager is.

So looking for positives, we have a big contingent of our squad who have not been drained from a heavy season. There could be a freshness about them that doesn't exist in their opposition.

Most on here know that I'm not totally aligned with Ange's tactical setup, but that doesn't mean I don't want to be wrong about it. Wouldn't it be great to have the same feelings about the last quarter of the season as we had about the first? At that stage we saw a lack of consistency but we saw some destructive, entertaining football as well. Our theory was that the defence would tighten up and we would find that consistency. I thought we saw a trend in the right direction.

Somebody on here (apologies for forgetting) said the other day that we can't fully test Ange in the last phase of the season if the players don't get behind him. The point was that Ange's tactical system completely relies on the players buying in. Now whether you're in the departure lounge like Biss and playing for your next move, or you're the 3 fullbacks fighting for 2 places you'd like to think we'd see a reaction.

The last perspective is that over the years we've seen the yellow bellies in our changing room including the most high profile and highest paid players. Wouldn't it be great to think that this new generation don't have that losers mentality? They'll fight all the way, even though they might be playing for someone else next season.
