If Britain were attacked by Russia would you enlist?

Will you enlist?

  • Yes

  • No

Yeah, but you could have experience working on autonomous machines on construction sites and convert your skills to drone warfare. It's still enlisting.

I do agree that it is a changing landscape though. It's not about warm bodies per se anymore.
A nuclear winter is definitely not worth surviving into. I'd run straight towards the big mushroom and have it over with as quick as possible.

Even Mad Max is optimistic about what a post-apocalyptical world would look like. There would be no fresh food for generations to start with. And all water would be poisoning you

Well British culture is infinitely superior to Russian inspite of any flaws.

Nah - I did a free module in 19th and 20th Century Russian Culture at university.

Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Chekhov, Zamyatin, Solzhenitsyn, Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev, Rachmaninov, Stravinsky, Shostakovich, Tarkovsky, Eisenstein - I'd line up with those guys

If their name surname was Smith you wouldn't want them playing up top for Spurs.....

I think a wider angle to your question is what would you consider an attack to be? I'd argue that Russia has quite successfully attacked Britain (and other places) with huge success via it's manipulation of social media and angling prevailing narratives where they want them to be. They have successfully created such divisions within Europe that it essentially attacked itself from within. It could be argued that Russia has been attacking Britain for a solid decade or more, and that we have not only not fought, we've ceded to them in many ways.

Sure but we (both UK & US) also do that in Russia and other countries.

If they were to strike UK energy sources and infustructure which results in casualties. Which is unlikely but not completely out of the question any more.

But how? What are you saying? A physical strike?

You still haven't clarified. A physical strike could be taking out the grid/a section of the grid which would result in many casualties. Again, are you talking about 'traditional' strikes (y'know, from fighter jets, warships, etc)?
This is going to be the problem with AI and tech development running these things.

Physically knocking out important infrastructure/systems won't be required.

Cyber/software attacks is all that will be required to destroy or grind such things to a halt.

Forgive me I’m not some expert of weaponry or modern warfare.

They launch a long range misile which hits an important piece of energy infustructure in Britain. Many lives are lost.

Are you enlisting? (In hypothetical world where you are younger)

it’s a very paranoid argument. The U.K. is very united in it’s hate for Putins Russia.

And if Social media is a poisoned well of misinformation then is that from the right or left because the internet generations who use social media tend to be on the left, anti zionist and pro EU.

Note also MI5 played down Burnham claims about Russian infiltration.

There could however been more localism. It wimdfarms and solar are generating, rather than 10 big power stations, that's much harder to get at. Providing the grid is wired in parallel rather that series (to use a xmas tree light analogy)

Its the modular nuclear power stations that are major terrorist risks. A hit on them could take out the city they are located in

It is quite bizzare that there is a belief that foreign led misinformation campaigns are exlcusivley right wing.
