***OMT Tottenham Hotspur v Aston Villa***, PL, Sat 19th Sept 2026

On another day we would have been 3-0 up. That’s my positive.
Our body language on the pitch worries me. Sullen faces. Lack of communication. Fear.
Remember when there was joy? It was some time ago, granted. Smiles? They all went with Sonny.
Truth is our component parts do not fit, or cannot play the way RDZ wants them to. Or is the way that RDZ wants us to set up just plainly wrong? Is he asking players to do what they have been schooled not to do for the whole of their professional lives? Round pegs and square holes kind of vibe. I’m scratching my head looking for answers tbh…

And that neither of our centre backs will properly defend a cross

But Danso wasn't good enough apparently. I'd take him over either of the two statring for us today.

Good wishes to all those still able to scrape up some positivity. I'm not one of them. 5 games or 50 games in, I think we're fudged and I fully expect us to be in a relegation fight again and even more likely to actually go down than last season. I had a bad feeling about RDZ from the start but yet again I listened to all the people who went on about what a great manager he is. Same as I listened to those who with a straight face claimed that Ange could be a successor to Pep. Like Ange, I think RDZ is yet another flimflam merchant; long on explanations and excuses, short on results. And like his predecessors, I don't want to hear anything he's got to say or even watch his team play until we see some actual delivery on the pitch (and I don't mean taking a jewellers eyepiece to every game to try to locate a slight improvement in some tiny element in the morass of yet another defeat).

Of course I fervently hope to be proved wrong. I usually am wrong when it comes to football. And I'll hold up my hands and say it when RDZ produces the sort of side we all hope to see (but I won't hold my breath). Eddie Howe anyone?

I'm beginning to worry tbh. He is making odd tactical choices; doesn't seem to react well in-game; and he already looks like a pretty deflated figure.
Perhaps those who said he'd never actually achieved anything of note were right. I'm still hoping it'll come good, but the only pattern developing so far is playing a decent first 20 minutes with no end result and then fading into insignifigance for the vast majority of the remaining 70+ minutes.

I think his tactics are woeful for the players we have
We however wide players that need space but we instead smother midfield and play slow
Then you take off, again, the midfielder who can pass
Weird

If RDZ goes, there can only be one person we bring in... Frank. Better team, less injuries, and hopefully you realise I'm only joking 😃

The problem with playing out from the back is you need someone who just loves defending. Danso was that player. One very telling this was Bents running into centre back position so many times and intercepting . It's like he doesn't trust tweedle dee and tweedle dum at the back

I really want to give RDZ a chance but we saw with Thomas Frank (and with Ange in the league) that once that negative spiral sets in it's very hard to come out of. Next 2 games are crucial. We cannot leave it like we did last season. This is where we need to be decisive rather than let the poor results continue.
You’d pull the trigger if we don’t win in the next 2?

If we lose to Coventry, what do you do then?
I’d give him to Palace or Leeds. We’ll beat Coventry though.

The fella is in an environment where losing has been normalised, losing at home almost expected, the club has been dysfunctional and confidence through the floor.

We’ve spent a fortune bringing in some good quality players, we’ve given a manager more control at last and he has a proven track record in this league and at a big club in Marseille that all say to me that we just need patience. It will come. You can’t fix what we’ve become in a few weeks.

I’ve absolute confidence in him and wouldn’t even begin to think about his job until November comes around.

Five games in. We had a hatful of chances, their keeper made some very good saves. Players making runs, players now finding them, some of our usual lackadaisical defending. We were forced to make an early change. I was certain we were scoring today. Yet we go down against the run of play. Narrow offside, goal disallowed. Then another Worldy in the top corner. We did however make the changes and they worked. We score two and at least shup up the boring commentators desperate to give a goal as an OG to suit their narrative. We should have been at the very least a couple up. It doesn't feel like but it is definitely another small improvement.
I totally understand and get the positives and the step improvements. Yet I have left the ground today feeling more depressed after watching us than I can remember in a long time - not sure even at any point last season I felt this down. Maybe because I have higher expectations this season and I can see what should be happening, but it just isn’t. Things need to start gelling very soon because otherwise the players are going to start losing faith.
I agree with @Armchair Spurs that there is a real sense of fear in the players and that’s only going to get worse unless we can get this no-win monkey off our backs.
I suppose when so many changes are made players need time to gel with each other personality-wise as well as playing-wise but it does feel like there’s a disconnect in both at the moment.
3 weeks now for a lot of the players and RDZ to work together, and get fitness levels up. Just hope we get the desired result from it.
