I’d say if they were so confident of a return it would be their money rather than a loan against future earnings.
Personally I was much happier with the way Levy ran the place than what I’ve seen since he left.

Unfortunately, this is modern football if you want to 'compete' with the very top for trophies. Philosophically, I agree with you. Coldly -looking at the state of the game today- well, this is how you break into the trophy circles...it is why I felt double-gutted re: 2019, because we so nearly did it without any of that flimflam. And it is also why I think our Europa victory was massively underrated (even Villa overspent themselves into their current 'issue's in winning theirs). Someone will say Leicester, but they bent spending rules to get promoted the previous year...sadly we are where we are and the 'game' is most certainly getting weirder and weirder!

I’d argue that this is less of a gamble, signing players who have already proven they can cope with PL football.

Trophies should be a by product of good practice.
In the current environment I don’t think chasing them is worth the risk.
I don’t care if we never win anything as long as we are well run and in the CL regularly.

Considering the financial expertise on the board at Spurs not sure why taking money out in a lump sum which will be covered by future guaranteed revenue is a problem . If it's true that it's £90 million that will easily be covered by PL prize money even if we finish bottom , couple of seasons ago Southampton finished bottom and received £109 million in PL league position & TV money so even with interest payments the money we have taken doesn't seem excessive.
He is non exec chairman but Peter Charrington is vastly experienced in the financial world , we also have Jonathon Turner our independent director also vastly experienced in the financial world and also Collecott who has been around since year dot, would have thought if Vinai was taking risks in taking loans they would all be asking questions.
Maybe we are going in a different financial direction to Levy but the Lewis family promised change and they are keeping their word.

You speak the truth Steff, and that's now the only valid way of looking at it.
I'm was right with you, wanting to climb the mountain the 'right way'.
But, as we have seen, the big teams in your way, never get any punishment of consequence. Levy was a stickler for governance and sustainability BUT it looks like he was in the wrong business. All power to him for trying to be on the right side of it.
As I said in another post, we have a floor/foundation 99% of other clubs don't have (one legacy Levy does leave), so we can get up to all kinds of shenanigans and hopefully stay on our feet. Hopefully the kids bring some financial security themselves (well they are rich after all
), so we are then double handed to ride the bumps in the road.Let's have some fun!!

Borrowing money from the future is never a good idea...as when you get to the future and those revenues are not yours anymore, it catches up with you. No different to payday loans.
I'd imagine the kids might not have direct instant access to big cash lump sums, so that might be the reason.
Cash flow had become tight at Spurs as our cash pile had shrunk over 2-3 years.
We have big transfer debt that I guess (without looking at the detail) equals quite hefty stage payments for our various signings over the years. So some lubrication needed
It doesn't worry me as much as other clubs as the stadium is a cash machine.
But it is expensive debt, and the club carries a fair amount of debt already (luckily not expensive)
I wouldn't be surprised if the mention of this type of borrowing would have caused a clash between Levy and the kids.

Any transfers a gamble, Enic, Lewis' and DL aside. All footballing circumstances a player knows home or abroad change as soon as you leave the comfort of your original success.
To bring it into our own circumstances now, I dont think every signing we are making is exactly PL proven either, PL experienced but proven in terms of outstanding success at the top level, not all of them are
