Djed Spence

Spence + attitude issues + tropism IMO.

He has his own way and personality. He is apparently not allowed to have his own way or personality.
Personally? I find him a little sullen to the public eye, however he could well be a shy person who 'masks' and finds other ways to deal it, he could also just be someone who has that vibe about him. Every single facial expression, action, and attitude he displays is judged to the negative. It's never 'oh he's cool as a cucumber' or whatever, it's always 'he's got attitude/seems angry' etc. I think the recent isolating pillorying he received for the England game spoke to that a lot. The facts show that in terms of his application to his job, he must actually be steel-hard. After essentially being clamed off by Conte the second he arrived, he has quietly fought and fought to elevate his career to the point where he is at the World Cup for his country.
FWIW, I'd be starting Porro and Udogie over him, but I do think some of the stuff flung at him is nonsense!

He does back some of the negative up in interviews to be fair. The Rio interview was not exactly the most humble 45 minutes you’ll ever see. Don’t need everyone to be perfect Mr PR like Harry Kane. But it wasn’t great.

I think Everton were sniffing around … I’d happily bin him off and see what we have in the an academy or buy a good prospect to replace.
Everyone outside of 10 or so players is sellable.

Gray can step in at RB, I think if he went we would look at a Robertson type replacement for the short term.

Realistically in this market we could get 20-30 million for him.

It was hardly bad though.

When asked “which winger have you come up against that gave you the toughest time this season?” and is asked some names his dismissed them all and finished with something along the line of “honestly none of them” it’s a pretty stupid look as the backup LB for the team in 17th place.

Because he didn't act like you thought he should? Personally, I found his sunglasses cringe, but he is allowed to be who he is, right? Or is he? And WTF does that have to do with the fact he has worked very hard to become a top player?

Lol I deliberately didn’t bring up the sunglasses in my answer above. But yeh that didn’t work either.

From what I saw of that you are laying it on for what were some pretty low key comments. He praised Salah for having a high IQ as a winger and always having to be on his game, but didnt feel many in a flat race were as much as a problem as him. Hardly what you are making out TBH

Nail on head. But as humans they will have a bias in one way or another. Spence just doesn’t have the face that fits when wanting a stand out professional. His cigar smoking thinking he’s like a fake road man etc … he’s just not palatable.

You would accept it just about if he could back that up on the pitch. I haven’t seen it yet.

But 100% he should express himself however which way he likes and is entitled to do so, and I’m certain he couldn’t give a rats ass about my opinion about him.

Its because he is from a different set of social circles that 90% of the people on here I would guess and as a result they judge him on that rather than the reality. I haven't seen or heard anything in any interview that comes over as him being a problem or having an attitude.

If Spence stays it’s not a major issue. He’s just one of the players id happily cash in on. I think we can go with Porro & Gray at RB or replace him with a younger player with more upside. He’s also been with the club for a while so most of his transfer fee will be profit for PSR.

He has some very strong points. Recovery pace, good tackle and the one on ones are elite. But his positioning is genuinely lower league level and gets exposed time and time again. The amount of times we’ve conceded goals where Spence is not matking tight his man that’s the scorer or assister over the past few seasons is huge (not the goal v Congo btw).

For England the hate he gets is based on him being Spurs, Black, Muslim and right footed at LB in a different order depending on who is hating on him. I’m fully aware of that. But I also think he is a lower Prem level player which is not good enough for where Spurs want to be or England.

Tbf I can’t recall a single winger repeatedly getting the better of him last season.

I like Porro.

I love how people slagging off Spence today, but have forgotten the abuse you threw at Porro over the past 18 months. Just go to the Porro thread and see how he was slagged of during and after matches. Insuations that he simply could not defend abound. Losing all those matches so many on here got it into their heads that Porro was not good enough, that neither were good enough.

As for Spence, maybe if they just played him in one fecking position instead of having to help out on whichever side we needed help he might be a better player by now.

In those one on one situations where he is genuinely elite yes. But it’s also rare to see full backs gettting consistently ruined at top level these days. Go look at the best dribblers in the world and it will be 3 successful ones a game and your in the top 10%.

But plenty of times they’ve got away from him when he’s meat to be marking them and scored.

And thr fact Spence was nowhere near fault for the goal but in so many channels got hung out. Not saying there is an agenda but he seems an easy player to be down on. Our fans did it long before he kicked a ball at Spurs
Of course there is a fecking agenda, the number of times I have heard people say he has an attitude problem
