OMT *** Tottenham Hotspur v Brentford FC ***

Nah Mikey, you're better than a snide like that.
You can play this as me taking a stand which needs 'approval', the truth is you have been equally dismissive of any criticisms of Frank or perceived lack of patience.
So let's be gentlemen here and call THAT situation a draw.

Is it perfect?
No.
Is it reasonable to expect it to be yet?
No.
Are we going through a period of massive change on and off the field?
Yes.
Are we missing our three key creative players?
Yes.

I honestly don’t know what people were expecting at this stage - other than things I feel are completely unrealistic, given the squad that we have.

I am completely open to the idea it might not work with Frank, but I’m not going to be near making any judgement on that until the summer at the very earliest.

(I’m sorry for any snarkiness which may have crept in - my bad.)

I beg to differ. Missing a lot of players. Over Christmas having played recently. There was huge graft shown to keep them out - no mean feat. A very strong home side. And we broke better than we have been often and treated the better openings according to XG. We have issues in the final third, less of the final ball today, more the finishing. But I think Rixhi was tired. French he might have bagged a goal.
Xg was pretty even with us slightly better. It was two poor midtable teams cancelling each other out, with little quality on offer.

All good mate appreciate that..., will reply later. I know we disagree but our disagreements are always worth it❤️

Odobert doesn't need to learn to supply a final ball (fudge!)

The manager needs to build patterns that Odobert knows what the play/pass is before he gets it, that others will make runs and he knows where those runs will be.

The reason we look like we can't pass is because we have no fudging patterns, so literally a player gets the ball, has to look up and wonder where the fudge his teammates are, and in that time either gets closed or the opposition gets time to read the pass. This is 100% on manager

I don’t accept that the manager causes him to often fail to beat the first man when attempting to square the ball in the box. That’s about ability to produce in high stakes games at the highest level imho. He doesn’t have it - yet. If we had a decent squad we’d be using him off the bench late in games which, coincidentally, is when he’s looked at his best.

Come on Steff, what's more likely, 22 players are all brick or the manager is killing the team?
This for me is key.

I would love to what the actual mindset is going into games. Efficiency is a word associated with TF a lot -not sure if it's a word he agrees with or not. But it makes me wonder if being more efficient is coming at the cost of trying to create chances. We put an awful lot of balls into the box to aim at just one or two players - we should surely be attacking it with 3 or 4 if that's the tactic. So where are the runners? It's a big problem for our attackers because most options are backwards. Xavi seems to try and break from that but it can't be just one player.

If we must wait for the perfect pass then where are the options?

I do think some players are overrated but they aren't as bad as this. No way Romero signed a new contract if we were this bad.

It’s a good away point - unless you’re a negative dreamer who can’t see the reality of where we are.

Indeed, considering Brentford have the 4th best home record in the PL plus how atrocious our form in London has been in recent years and the fact that almost all our creative players are currently unavailable it’s not too shabby a result.

This is it, its 100% where I am also.

Frank may well not be the man, I keep saying it, but if people think we are getting anywhere we need to, not least playing in this Sexy Spurs way then they will need time and better players and time to integrate those players and his style, did I mention time.

I will say this about the next guy and the guy after that because I like to think I have a grasp on where we are as a club and personnel. Maybe I am wrong and thr next manager rocket launches us to 4th playing champagne football, but I have massive reservations about that being likely

A top 6 club with hardly any top 6 players?
We just sold a bench player for 35m and mid table clubs were fighting for him. In the past we couldn't offload bench players for free and no midfield club wanted them.
Our signings: Xavi Simmons, Kolo Muani, Palhinha and Kudus are all highly regarded. Chelsea was after Simmons, Kolo comes from PSG and is/was a french international. Palhinha comes from Bayern, Portuguese international and has had a good season so far. Kudus was one of West Ham's best players.
Our squad value is 5th in the Premier League and 9th in the world.
We just won an European cup. We are a top 6 club.
Apart from having important players like Kulusevski, Maddison and Solanke injured, there are no excuses not to be further up the standings.

Well we didn`t lose. And Brentford have a pretty decent home record but we really look an average side. I don`t know what the answer is as for the third window in a row we sell our previous seasons top scorer. I know he is not well liked on this forum but at least he could put the ball in the net which is more than you can say for the current attackers we have. And he scored the winner in the europa league final. Good luck Brennan!
Its like some kind of curse at our club but Kudus Muani Oderbert and Tel never look to me like they are going to score any time soon. And what has happened with Paulihna and Kudus? The first 5 or 6 games I was thinking these are the players we have been missing for the last couple of seasons but Kudus in particular is just so frustrating. Holds the ball beats the first man then runs and runs until 3 opponents crowd him out and he loses the ball.
I know our squad is very light weight at the moment but surely one day we will get a manager who will give some of our youngsters a place on the bench and 10 minutes on the pitch in a game like we have just watched tonight

People where 100% lauding Brentford in an attempt to undermine Franks work there, it was fairly clear from some of the digs in those posts on here and socials. Surely for that reason we take the point and scarper??

the quality is in the cancelling out

The tactical game of chess and application. That we couldn’t quite nick it, was frustrating. Either side could have. First half I was really impressed tho. We gave them nothing - I recall just one menacing break but we defended it well - and we had a lot of half chances for Gray, Richi and Spence - none the most potent of attackers. A fresh Richi rather than a tired one and maybe it’s a different story.

That was the frustration with palace. We should have put that game to bed and not had to work as hard. But our attack is weak. Big question is who is being signed and can they hit the ground running? Presumably a left winger.

Exactly, we have closed a lot of the holes which hurt us in pretty much every game last season, we are a demonstrably better team now.

Progress is not linear.
