Daniel Levy - Former Chairman

I’d love to understand more about the hotel vs footballing business point. What is the calculation there? Is it that hotels would be another long term revenue source? Otherwise, surely we’d plough that money into the footballing business anyway? And how much money is that really anyway?

If I remember correctly from the programme it was about changing the optics, and also the perception of some fans: a means of showing that the core business is football.

I really hope that the personal abuse he has suffered wasn't the deciding factor in this, though it probably brought it forward. It staggers me that some fans can't see what an astonishing building DL created in the new White Hart Lane: as if the vision, the commitment and the huge amount of effort he put into the project management, was just irrelevant to our future success. What a legacy! Thank you Daniel...

I really doubt that it did. He has way thicker skin than to listen to idiots.

25 years is enough for anyone. He completed his life’s work, with the stadium, training ground, and then progress of the club. Then steered us through Covid. Then was able to depart with a trophy.

I’d bet this last few years have been about getting the succession planning in place, making sure there is a structure there that endures. I can understand having a high pressure job for this long would get to anyone eventually, but I don’t think it would have been driven by the nonsense some people spout.

Interesting - thank you.

Optics as the reason makes sense. I can’t imagine a hotel construction is that impactful when compared to the sums involved in signing a player. Equally I like the idea that it has compounding effects as a potential long term revenue source - it feels like a very Levy thing to advocate for.

Interesting news, and I'm sure there will be more to come.

I always felt I had a balanced view on Levy. He was definitely one of us and we should never forget that. He is also a fantastic businessman who transformed so much about our club. Amazing tenacity to get things done. Love that about him. I've also spoken of his weakness of not putting the right football DNA in at the leadership level and empowering himself in this areas too much. The one thing he definitely knew how to do was take make an investment and turn himself into the super-rich, riding the football money train. I admire him for that, even though he hasn't touched a penny of his fortune......yet.

Can't say I'm not a little nervous about the 2 new leaders we have running the club. They have it all to prove to us fans. As always I will start with only best intent on them both though.

Congrats to Levy for keeping this under wraps as well. In a world where everyone knows everything about people's business, he kept this one very quiet. Fair play.

Onwards and upwards. COYS.

POK is saying the kids of Lewis are more interested in turning Spurs into a force.

What is interesting and what I’ve long thought is that Levy could have been protecting his Enic shareholding. Whether we will see him sell his Enic shares back, or if they are being diluted by investment into the club, idk.

There is a mismatch h between the shareholders. Joe Lewis has the money to invest into Spurs. Levy doesn’t. That creates a trickery situation with Levy as CEO. As he wouldn’t sanction actions that potentially dilute his shares. For example, if Enic invest £100m into Spurs Levy would either have to stump up circa 25m or see his share holding diluted.

All that said, Levy has huge knowledge of football politics, contracts and negotiations for players. I would think Enic can transition in harmony with him to retain his nous and input if needed. It would be a shame to lose that acumen. And no doubt he will exit with a huge interest in the club - emotionally as well as financially.

Have to say it's felt like this has been coming. The departure of Cullen and Coldicot, plus Vinai coming in. The noise about investment was also counter to the Levy philosophy for a long time.

The end of an era, quite literally. DL has been the focal point of the club for a generation and his departure will have lasting effects on the club, as will what he has achieved. His legacy is the stadium, the training ground and the winning of the Europa league, which is better than 99% of his peers. Not that his dissenters will see it that way.

I wonder what this means for Paratici.
