Virgin v Sky

Spursman

Neil Sullivan
Hi

I had a leaflet from virgin media come through today. Decided to have a look at it.

There TV package they have is pretty much the same thing as sky so looked at costing.

Currently for broadband, phone line and sky TV i pay £123.15 per month, i have the full package, espn, HD and multiroom. We only have HD for the lounge not in my bedroom.

Virgin will do the same thing for us for £96.90 per month (£81.90 for the first 3 months)

Saving £26.25 a month which is a whopping £315 a year!

Pros of switching over to Virgin.

Cheaper
2 HD boxes
can record 3 things and watch a 4th
the boxes hold MUCH more than sky boxes
if the box goes wrong they send an engineer out FREE.

Cons:

Sky is what we are used to.

At the end of the day all we watch it, football, documentaries and general stuff. All the channels I watch are on the virgin network.

It’s a big saving,, has anyone else considered changing?? is it any good?

I will call sky about my findings and see what they can do.

I used to have sky we changed to Virgin about three years ago

No difference whatsoever. Take the saving but I think you could get Virgin to lower it to 90 easily. All about market share innit blud.

Also sky are pretty good at out retention deals when you suggest that you'd like to leave to save money.

Some of them are I guess I never noticed because I dont really watch much TV.

Virgin doe have the important channels on HD and all seem to be the ones I normally watch - comedy central, sky sports 1/2, E4 etc

I have forgotten - what it doesnt have are the 900 channels - you know the ones im talking about and if you dont youre just a fudgein liar.

Call Sky and tell them you're considering switching to Virgin because it's much cheaper. They'll knock a fair bit off your price.

yeh was going to do that... what ive noticed is they do it for a period like 6 months.. Will call them tomorrow and see what they can do for me.

Having had both the differences are such for me

Virgin
- Cheaper
- Better customer service (by far)
- More reliable (endless outages wth Sky)
- tivo better than Sky HD box

Sky
- 3D channels
- Sky Atlantic
- And any other new channel they get they tend to with hold for some time

You may have Sky Atlantic but we have Virgin Atlantic - so lets just say we win that one
