Ten is the debut studio album by the American rock band Pearl Jam, released on August 27, 1991 through Epic Records. Following the disbanding of bassist Jeff Ament and guitarist Stone Gossard's previous group Mother Love Bone, the two recruited vocalist Eddie Vedder, guitarist Mike McCready, and drummer Dave Krusen to form Pearl Jam in 1990. Most of the songs began as instrumental jams, to which Vedder added lyrics about topics such as depression, homelessness, and abuse.

Ten was not an immediate success, but by late 1992 it had reached number two on the Billboard 200 chart. The album produced three hit singles: "Alive", "Even Flow", and "Jeremy". While Pearl Jam was accused of jumping on the grunge bandwagon at the time, Ten was instrumental in popularizing alternative rock in the mainstream.[1] In February 2013, the album crossed the 10 million mark in sales[2] and has been certified 13x platinum by RIAA. It remains Pearl Jam's most commercially successful album.[3]

Relationship of Command is the third and final studio album by the post-hardcore band At the Drive-In, and was released in September 2000. The band reached mainstream success through the album, if only for a short time before their break-up in 2001.

The album combines a hardcore aggressive edge with a melodic drive and harmonious, emotive and surreal vocals and lyrics.[1] While the album continues in the alternative style of At the Drive-In's previous albums, Relationship of Command is seen as a more well-rounded album than its predecessors. Initially, the album was received positively by critics, and the album is now seen not only as one of the most influential post-hardcore albums of the decade[2] but also as one of the most accomplished recent works in the wider rock spectrum.[3] Relationship of Command was voted 12th out of 50 in the Albums of the Decade by NME[4] and the 37th most influential album of all time by Kerrang![5]

Too easy. At The Drive In - ****ing awesome album.

Pearl Jam - one of the greatest records of all time.

Pearl Jam at a canter please.

Pearl Jam are the (my) greatest band in history.

I listen to them every day (thanks to you hundreds of incredible Pearl Jam live bootlegs! \o/)

Damn shame At the Drive In have to be knocked out in the first round. It's a corker of an album.

But it can't compete with Ten.

Me neither. Of the 'big four', I was much more into Nirvana and Alice in Chains.

I was a lot more into the bands on labels like SubPop and Blast First. I saw bands like Pearl Jam and Alice In Chains as metal/classic rock interlopers.

I loved Pearl Jam during the Ten and Vs album period, after that I feel they fell away.

I preferred Alice in Chains, Faith No More, Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins from that era (as well as the likes of Neds Atomic Dustbin). I thought Bleach from Nirvana was fantastic (and still do), but got tired of Nevermind pretty quickly.

Pearl Jam's got nothing on ATDI. Probably losing the vote because the first track is called A r c A r s e n a l. :p

ATDI for me, find Pearl Jam a bit boring tbh listened to Ten a few times in my younger days but a few tracks aside it didn't do much for me. Relationship of Command on the other hand is is one of my favourite albums

I preferred the bands whose major influences were punk, hardcore and garage rock rather than classic rock and metal. I think that Mudhoney **** over Alice in Chains, Soundgarden and Smashing Pumpkins.

That's down to personal taste though isn't it. You obviously prefer the punk sound and I prefer the metal sound.

Don't get me wrong I still love Mudhoney (saw them do a pub gig a couple of years ago in Perth!), but preferred the heaviers sounds of the bands I've mentioned.

Also love Screaming Trees! Fantastic bloody band.

It's absolutely down to personal taste. I'm not sure that I agree that the metal influenced bands were heavier though, there was just more riffs.

I saw At the Drive In at the Reading Festival in 2000 but was so smashed I can't remember what they were like!

I was going to see them at the Roskilde festival 2001, but they disbanded only a few months prior to it. :( I own every record they've released, and as much as I like Acrobatic Tenement and In Casino Out, Relationship of Command is the top of the crop. Fantastic album from start to finish. Not a single weak track in there. I've yet to hear a band with as much originality and energy. I heard they did a short reunion tour a couple of years ago - would've loved to see them.

And what a live show. Damn, what a ****ing bummer to not have seen them. :(

"This one's dedicated to a band from the UK called The Fall, and if you don't know who The Fall is, you're listening to too much hip-hop and heavy metal."

Now if only the Fall had made our short list. Pretty much all of their 80's output is excellent and there is good stuff either side of that too.
