Spurs vs Southampton, the OMT no-one wants to start

Ive said all along VAR has killed the game. Cant celebrate a goal anymore.
The faceless fudges who brought it in dont give a flying fook what the fans want.
It's pretty amazing that "the best league in the world" still haven't got their head out ot their arse and implemented the automated offside calls!
It was supposed to be introduced at the beginning of this season, then delayed until after the first international break, then after the Christmas break, and still there is no sign of it! Supposedly it needs more testing!

Ffs, it's been working flawlessly in the CL for years!!! But if I know the PL right, that was probably not good enough for them, so they have probably spent millions on developing a new system, that doesn't work, instead of just implementing one that has worked perfectly for years!

It is coming in next weekend.

I actually have a lot of time for Aaron Ramsdale, partisan feelings aside. Has been very vocal vs Homophobic abuse, his brother being gay. A brave stance in modern day football and deserves to be applauded IMHO.

It wonderful that he can do that and I admire him for that but he like many Woolwich players fell for the childish action of adopting the "I hate Spurs" cult. It's totally unprofessional, I'm all for a bit of banter with local rivals but there are far to many immature people about who take it too far and players should be careful with how they may influence them.

Guess we’ll see how the PL have been tweaking SAOT this weekend… hopefully there will be no more of these 4 minute delays at the very least!

It's interesting that the SEMI-automated technology suggests a kick point. With the contraction / expansion of the ball it has always been a bone of contention how to establish that kick point.

It could now be argued that because the SA VAR automatically creates the lines after the kick-point is established, it will be very easy for the VAR team to select different kick-points that give the 2 different answers. So it should be quite straightforward to run onside into offside and vice versa at a touch of a button, without adding more time.

I'd like to know how the kick point accuracy is being measured.

If past performance is any guide, the software writers will have been instructed not to consider anything that strays into the territory of error intervals or confidence levels. The starting point will be the confidence level is 100%.

Its perfection mate.

In general I agree that they absolutely do not consider fans much, however, VAR was in response to the constant criticism of referees and the mistakes they made. A lot driven by the media, but as fans we definitely played our role.
I disagree mate. I dont know if fans wanted the offside farces, the debatable hand balls and the 5 minute delays. I wouldve been happy with just the goal line technology.

They start the indoctrination early. Fibreglass as captain was vocal, but seems to have outgrown it now at como with dele.

Of course fans didn't want that. But that's not how it was intended or sold. It was brought in to relieve the game of referee's mistakes. Fans absolutely played a part in it.

Some fans, by no means all. I'd be intrigued to see an actual survey of fan thought pre VAR. I doubt one was ever done but I know I was in the camp of no technology and still am really. Apart from matters of fact like goal line and potentially offsides if they tweak the allowance. Every other decision still has a degree of subjectivity and always will so no matter the amount of technology used depending on the officials on the day something may or may not be given as a foul.

There was a huge call from fans for VAR, there is a thread on here somewhere where people defended it till recently. People thought it would stop "agendas" and rubbish like that.

Managers and fans alike wanted this, they were idiots because the same people are crying about it.

I never wanted it, still don't. Goal line tech and nothing else for me.

Bah Humbug

I'm up for anything automatic, goal line/offsides, as it's quick and doesn't rely on idiots. The only other thing I think it should be used for, is if the ref has missed a blatant card offence. And slow-mo should be banned, if you can't see it in real time, fro.

It's a complicated matter. While I was against VAR, it's also true that before, you had some incredible stats and decisions (Man United went a ridiculous amount of time without conceding a penalty at OT or Pedro Mendes' disallowed goal at OT). Being a referee isn't the most glamourous job in the world either and given the lack of candidates, you couldn't afford to ban every crooked ref that ever officiated.

I still don't like VAR and I think the IFAB is tampering way too much with the Laws of the Game, mostly under FIFA's pressure, but let's not fool ourselves into think everything was fine before VAR was brought in.

As for the fans calling for VAR, the intense lobbying from broadcasters played a huge part in that. In 2010, you couldn't watch a game without being told that the result would have been oh-so-different, if they'd been allowed to use VAR.
