He is right on the line for me between "this player clearly has loads to develop, he can really be something" and "Waste of potential, clearly he wont get any better than he is now (which isnt really good enough)"

Decent for the squad, no more, and as such Id sell for a good price. Hardly irreplaceable.

Also, Ive heard that he is on low wages still around 60k a week which is another reason he's an ideal squad player (for Levy at least). More importantly he's good enough to be a squad player too...

They aren't getting regular minutes, and in lamela case payed in a suitable system.
Look at the improvement in Llorente when he got game time.
There's a player in there, and one that at the right club will be a key player.
Some at the club could learn a lot from his mentality.
 
The way we play Lamela really suits him, IMO. He is in the right positions to be creative and attack the goal, has the freedom to roam centrally etc.

Problem is, aside from odd flashes, he just doesnt do much with it.

Other problem is he is so often injured he cant actually be relied upon.

Good for a hot streak of a few games a season, good as a workhorse (would never doubt his ethic/commitment) but not good enough to really impact the first 11 IMO.

I just don’t get him!
He was fit and looking good earlier in the season, thought great and then once again got injured when he wasn’t playing.
Not for me and so one footed it’s unreal.
I will just shut up I don’t get him. You do, be happy!

Don't get me wrong I don't see him as a first team player in the current set up. I think it would be best for all parties if we could get a decent fee and move him on, but yes I do like his attitude and he has skills we could use as a rotation player.

I don't think our game suits him, to me he's looking to beat a man and slip a ball into a man playing on the shoulder of the defence or a late runner.
We are more about pulling a defence out of shape by passing.
 
He cant beat a man. Pass and move, yes - but even when he slips someone he never gets away.

When we are actually playing well we are really fluid and all players are supported, whereby he can roam and bounce the ball off team mates etc and make things happen/score/set things up.

Really, I've seen him go by plenty of men, he then struggles to release the ball granted, but I think that's because he's looking for certain
situations that we just aren't set up for, so he dallies on the ball and loses it. He can't seem to adapt.

Ive seen him slip past someone plenty of times, so yes technically he can beat a man - but he never seems to get away from them or do anything with it IMO so its kind of moot.

He always seems most effective when he gets some momentum and plays off of people, to me at least, though that happens too infrequently.
 
I was a big fan of his but since his injurys he does not seem the same player. It depends on what we could get for him but if we could get a decent price i would not turn it down.

I've never said that he is doing enough.
 
I would, he is the player i dislike most in the squad.

Aurier can not take a throw in, Tripper and Rose can not defend and the are others with bigger flaws. But Lamela I dislike so much, all that money each week how many years a pro and his right foot is only to stand on.

I know we are not meant to hate our own players but I hate Lamela, yes he runs around and has a will to win. But I want more, we signed him for more and he has been the biggest failure in the squad.

Sell him and replace him with a younger version who maybe just tries to improve on their GHod given skill set.
