Running Thread

Anyone go running regularly? Participate in any events?

At the moment I'm getting back in to running. I hadn't been running for several months so trying to get back in to it again. Starting with Park Run 5ks, and joined local running club. Going to be hard work but today proved that the running brings rewards! Managed to land myself a PB, by others standards my time isn't wow but sub 24 minutes today so moving in the right direction!

I enjoy running but never been in a club or any events. I run 4-5 k twice a week just for fitness. I use the Monday run as away to loosen up the legs after all the knocks and bumps from Saturdays. I find it works a treat if there sore which most of the time they are. I use the map my run app and also get a great feeling bettering my times tend to shave 20-30 secs of every week so it must be working !

I find running painfully boring. If I do run, I'll do intervals in the gym. 20 second sprint (~19kph) then 40 sec rest, for 10-12 minutes depending on how masochistic I'm feeling that day.

I run with an app called zombies run, ocassionally you have to sprint to avoid zombies. It's enough to keep me motivated.

that looks great, gonna try that, although I do run at night down dark roads so might end up ****ting myself

tbh the acting/storyline is a bit cheesy and it's a computerised voice that informs you zombies are chasing you. If you get 'caught' you'll drop items so won't be able to build up your base as quickly...

Zombie, run! (really similar name) shows you zombies on a map and you have to avoid them. You end up peering down side streets to see how far away they are..

that would **** me up, to actually start looking for them would make my brain consider the possibility

too much Stephen King at a young age I think

anyway, didn't run tonight as knackered from chasing the kids round the farm all day

I think those apps are good extra motivation but perhaps, in my mind, they come with limited entertainment value. I would think that you would play it a few times and enjoy it but then there's nothing new & so you start getting bored of it.

I joined the local running club as I'm keen to train with others as u think it will make me more inclined to attend. I'm going to be a regular Park Run runner too as I think that gives the chance for a regular assessment to see just how well I'm improving for the 5k distance. I'm going to be 'competing' in the Poole, Dorset event next Saturday. Then the Andover 5k a few weeks later. Part of that is due to mates/family. The rest is down to me wanting some variation in the routes. Now that I've cracked 24 minutes, I'm going to be aiming for a sub 23 minutes time.

Handy thread, just started doing a bit of light jogging every other day after work, only about 20 minutes/ 2 miles worth but its a start! Already feeling better for it, sleeping a bit better and feeling a bit more awake

Well, I thought that if there was a cycling thread, there should be a running thread. People can feel free to discuss International Competitions too as I'm starting to develop more if an interest in those too and think that they would be relevant to this thread.

Running club for me tonight; sprints and trials. My sprinting speed is decent, so hopefully can push myself further to improve.

If there are any 5k Park Runs near you, I would advise going.

They are a free fun event and get you motivated towards beating your own time. And take place every Saturday morning at 9am.

I try to run at least three times a week. Have been a bit off the boil recently. Normally around the 4-5 mile mark. As long as I have music, I can run, I must admit I don't enjoy it too much, more for vanity purposes. I normally stop through boredom rather than actual tiredness, can definitely run further outdoors than on a treadmill.

Such a good way to lose weight and keep fit.

If I didn't use the zombies app I'd still track my run with the likes of runkeeper and have my headphones in listening to music. Now what happens is every few songs I get a bit of naff acting and storyline. You wouldn't enjoy it if it was a standalone audiobook or something but as you're not doing anything else it's kind of fun.

I'm tempted by doing one of the park runs. There's a few nearby.

Perfect preparation tonight. I get home & need to be at the club in half hour. It takes me half hour to get there. So no time to eat anything. No time to get changed. Tempted to sack it off as I have ticket to see Raid 2 hmmm

I ended up going running, disappointed not to have seen Raid 2 but I'll see it when it has it's full release, just hoping that it gets a screening at Southampton Cineworld.

The run itself was hard work, we ran sprints and trials tonight. I burned myself out at one point. I'd sprinted, as hard as I could, to reach the checkpoint in fact I pushed myself so hard that I struggled to complete the return leg! Going from first to last very quickly  I received praise for my speed, told that after some training I should be recording some excellent race times. I certainly hope so.

I did end up going running last Monday, hard work but I think that it was worthwhile.

We had a sprints session which is ok except that I've developed a reputation for being a good sprinter. The reputation isn't a completely bad thing but does add pressure when we have sprinting exercises. I feel like I need to demonstrate my ability again both to myself, and to others. I hate putting in a good run, only to be beaten by another runner.

Consequently, on one of the last sprints, I pushed myself a bit too hard. I'm confident that I had a good pace but the sprint took a lot out of me. On the way back, I was flagging and struggled to get going at all. I ended up demonstrating my complete lack of fitness rather than any kind of pace. The fact that I was the last back out of the group gives rise to a comparison to the story if the hare and the tortoise. Maybe I need to push back my ears sometimes and get shining that shell!

One problem that I'm continuing to endure is that of a heel injury. I think it's plantar fasciitis. Each morning, after a good run, it feels like I'm walking on a plug with my left foot. Not ideal, especially as I'm intending to start running in the morning!!

I used to run a lot, I've done two marathons and about 20 odd half marathons, but most of the time now I'll only run 5km or 10km, just for fun and just to keep fit. I'm not the quickest, but when 'running' fit can run quite hard for long periods. I love it but unfortunately my knees don't, and I can't run as often as I'd like as it takes me several days to shake off the stiffness I get after doing a moderately hard run.
