Oscar-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead of an apparent drug overdose — in the bathroom with a hypodermic needle still in his arm — inside a Greenwich Village home on Sunday morning, cops said.

A personal assistant found Hoffman’s body in an apartment at 35 Bethune St. and called 911 around 11:30 a.m, sources said.

Cops are at the scene and are investigating, sources said.

Hoffman, 46, publicly admitted in 2006 that he nearly succumbed to substance abuse after graduating from NYU’s drama school, but got sober in rehab.

“It was all that (drugs and alcohol), yeah. It was anything I could get my hands on…I liked it all,” he told “60 Minutes” as the time.

Last year, Hoffman reportedly checked himself into rehab again for ten days after relapsing in 2012.

TMZ said he began using prescription pills, then snorted heroin for about a week before realizing he needed help.

Loved him a great actor especially in that move about the **** star with walberg i forget the name now.

The only reason i stayed for the whole of synecdoche new york was for him because that movie was a major head ****, but i liked watching him as an actor, read about his struggles with addiction this year, sad stuff. I have a wife who deals with drug addicts in prison and some of them just can not give it up.

One of the best. Doubt and Before The Devil Knows You're Dead are both great films.

Oh, and of course The Big Lebowski!

i haven't seen many of his movies (in fact i had him mixed up with Willian H Macy when the news broke) what would you guys recommend?

The one's I said - Doubt, Before the Devil Knows You're Dead. He plays a lead role in those. Haven't seen Capote which he won the Oscar for.

He was always one of those great background character actors - see Boogie Nights, Big Lebowski, Almost Famous.

Brilliant film, arguably his best.

He was also in one of the Hannibal lector movies wasn't he? Where lector sets him on fire and tapes him to a wheelchair

I'm really shocked and saddened by this. I guess, selfishly, a big part of the sadness is that I will never see him in a new film again. I felt like that with Heath Ledger as well. He was fantastic in every film I ever saw him in, something I don't know if I could say for any other actors. So good in the Talented Mr Ripley and also in smaller films like the Savages and Doubt.

RIP, seriously going to miss him.

Probably not one of his most famous roles, but I really did enjoy this film : (Owning Mahowny)

This is one of my favorite scenes, and although Hoffman's role is small, he still creates all the comedy in it.

GHod's Pocket and A Most Wanted Man will be released later this year; he's in them both.
Also the last 2 Hunger Games films
