Are we boycotting amazon, google, ebay and starbucks?

they are fudging sniddey if you ask me, just read today the guy from john lewis which is my favourite shop in this country, the staff in there and waitrose really are a class above, i mean there just shelf stackers but they are not departs or rude like the ****s at tesco.

Problem is i often get most of my xmas presents on amazon, but what you ladies doing are you boycotting them? i dont begrudge someone trying to get out of a little tax, i may have done the odd cash job myself in the pastactually fudging hundreds but im bang against these pricks putting the best shop in the country out of business.

unless they are breaking the law I have no problem with it, its the govt's fault for there not being laws in place to stop this

I'm boycotting Starbucks and Ebay because I don't use them anyway.

TBH, I think what they all do is pretty shoddy, but ultimately my laziness far outweighs my outrage, and if you think I'm actually going shopping for Christmas presents you can fook off.

starbucks are crap, i much prefer costa coffee

tax laws need to change so we can get the country out of the brick, also i guess you could call me a fan of john lewis i think it is important shops like these stick around.

Amazon is easy.

The local charity shops will be awash with things that never arrived in the post from amazon.

And don't forget the negative feedback .

The trouble is that these companies or other companies with similar interests in tax loopholes lobby the government and make party donations. The US system is rightly ridiculed but their the contributions are just more blatant.

I've never understood why all the major economies have tax laws that allow tax havens. I mean, I do know why ... the money ... but I can't think of any logical reason why they should allow it as all governments lose tax revenues from the richer individuals and companies, which means raising taxes on everyone else, a vote loser and bad for the economy.

Costa is my favorite by a long way although Cafe Nero is very very very good - excellent actually - just not enough of them about.

I made a thread about online shopping and how im furnishing my new place and that everything is so much cheaper online. I have saved around £800 quid on stuff online than paying for it in shops.

Them saving taxes or rather avoiding taxation just means the savings are passed on to the customer - hence it being cheaper for us mere mortals. Ethical and in the spirit of things? no but I have saved £800 which benefits me too.

well as i love you i shall allow you off the hook.

Costa are so much better though arent they, they used to do about 2 years ago these little lemon spongey things, GHod they were to die for. I take my dad out now and again he is not to well and we always stop in a coffee shop, he likes coffee republic the most so i go in the one in hove quite a lot when im over taking him out. Is good but not up to costa standard.

Took him into the coffee shop in marks and spencer in worthing the other week, i think we were the only ones under 100, one of the old dears even tinkled herself.

tinkled herself at the sight of you I bet haha

So many choices for coffee now. More coffee places than pubs nowadays.

The trouble is you lose that gain by paying more taxes in the first place.

I'm not asking for punitive taxes on the rich and big corporations, just that they pay a fair share. Most people and smaller businesses don't have the option of using tax havens and pay their taxes, but have to pay more because the richer ones can avoid them. Amazon still uses the national infrastructure to deliver the books, so they should pay on their profits on their UK, not shift them to Luxembourg. Most of the books are printed in Britain and shipped from Britain without ever going anywhere near Luxembourg.

You make a good point in that the Government have to make that shortfall from us but let me ask you - do you think that the Government will lessen our tax burden if the Corporations are paying their way?

I really don't think they will. I think they would just see it as a bonus.

They will do what they can to get the votes.

So it becomes an issue of listening to direct paymasters (the rich, big corporations and, I shouldn't have omitted them above, the unions) or the indirect paymasters the electorate.

Its hard to assess how the "revolution" will happen, but I don't see why governments would want to tax people more than they needed to deliver the services demanded. I don't see the extra revenues from cutting loopholes creating a demand for government to spend more. The socialist left might demand more spending and the loony right might ask for more trickle down but the centre of British politics (moderate Conservative-New Labour-Rural LibDems) seem to be in the ascendency and they want government services when they are the best option and limited otherwise.

... but pay your dues as well.

You can talk, you've spent half your life dodging the tax man, doing cash-in-hand jobs and keeping it all for yourself to send your son to a good school... bizarre that you of all people would start a thread like this.

Pot, kettle, Ben.

Yeah I really don't care at all. Corporation tax is a joke anyway.

I'm all for globalisation and free trade, and the result of that is companies will base themselves in jurisdictions with the most competitive tax. Countries need to compete against each other over tax. I'm sure the taxpayers in Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Ireland aren't complaining, their lower tax rates is benefiting their citizens.

Did i balls, yeah i admit i done cash jobs but i made my money on the property boom and a lucky very lucky and good tip on smithsnews shares 4 years ago. I think in last 10 year i must have paid tax on all earning i had except for perhaps the odd bit of plastering for mates here or there and that was all done at mates rates.

I pay into this country and get little back * that said the nhs have been amazing with me the last 12 month and put Bupa to shame in my opinon and i shall not be renewing with them.

Oh yeah and if these companies paid the right amount of tax then decent hard working honest people would not have to pay extra for their childrens education.

Lol. What's the population of Luxembourg? I say ban them. We don't need these brands. They provide NOTHING unique. If you want access to the market you pay the going rate or fudge off
