Ratings v WBA

Generous for Kane...

Thought Walker was one of our better players too.

Loris - 7. Dodgy game in the main, but that save
Walker - 7 - Thought he had a really good game. A brain fart though.
Toby - 6. Not amazing
Jan - 5 - A few dodgy moments.
Rose - 6. Bad game, but that tackle was vital!
Dier - 4. Awful game from him today.
Dembele - 7. Not as great as usual. but probably still our best player.
Lamela - 6.5. Not bad.
Eriksen - 6. He's not tearing it up like last season is he...
Kane - 3. GHod we need another striker. He can't play every fudgein game!!!

Lloris 7
Walker 6
Toby 7
Vertonghen 5
Rose 7
Dembele 6
Alli 6 (one point for the goal.
Eriksen 5
Lamela 5
Dier 6
Kane 4

Lloris - 7.5. Saved our skins today with a great save and some very good ones - also saw the difficulties Toby and Jan were having with long balls, and rushed out more than he's been doing over the past few games to help deal with them.

Walker - 6.5. Solid, did little wrong apart from give the ball away a few times (which everyone did, really) - goal wasn't his fault.
Toby - 5.5. First time he's been relatively sub-par, failing to deal with long-balls played over his head and getting bullied by Rondon.
Jan - 5.25. Same.
Rose - 6.5. See Walker, Kyle.

Dier - 6. Tried his best to provide cover, but we were outpressed and outfought today, which forced him to spend the majority of the game playing safe and putting out fires.
Dembele - 5.75. Held on to the ball too long today (his old habit), and gave away four silly fouls which led to threatening free-kicks around the box. Kept possession and dribbled well, though.

Lamela - 6.5. Pressed well, got back to defend with regularity, played a great little through ball for Kane (over the top) in the first half, which was probably our most creative moment of the game save for the assist, tested Myhill with an admittedly tame header.
Alli - 6. Generally a bit lost overall, but the goal bumps his score up a bit.
Eriksen - 4. Anonymous, outfought, offered little, even his set-pieces were somewhat sub-par.

Kane - 4. Anonymous, see Eriksen, Christian.

Subs -

Son - 5. Brought a it of dynamism, but unable to impact the game.
N'Jie - N/A.

Thought Dier was poor by the standards he has set
Eriksen and Kane were woefully bad though
The rest were average

I think I lost all respect for Pulis today, outright thugery that the ref did nothing to stop (no idea how that tackle on Dembele was not a red, the scissors on Rose after tackle, numerous bad calls.) And to make it more insulting, Njie was onside in that 1:1

Alli, Lamela, Eriksen struggled today, think the physicality of it has something to do with it. Game we could have done with Mason for (like Rose, he doesn't back out of anything).

Brilliant save from Hugo (earned us two points, same as last week)

Toby was actually bullied a bit today, was saved on at least two occasions by Jan & Walker, but he's earned it ...

14 unbeaten, onward and upward ...

Lloris 8 What more do you want from him?
Walker 7 Battling performance against an in form McClean
Alderweireld 6 Bullied a bit by Rondon but created our goal
Vertonghen 5 Looked unnerved by Rondon, made mistake after mistake and couldnt get the ball clear.
Rose 7 Saved us once or twice. One of our only threats going forward
Dier 5 Not a good day. No space in the middle against 3 WBA midfielders. He dropped even deeper and took lots of extra touches
Dembele 6 Really inconsistent game. Reverted to the old Dembele we all know.
Lamela 6 Struggled to get any time on the ball. He still got his foot in now and then.
Alli 6 Great finish for the goal. Faded out of the game after the 30th minute.
Eriksen 6 Typical Eriksen game. Bit of pressing, a bit of failing to get any supply high up the pitch, followed by dropping back and stringing nice passes together and trying clever passes that end up intercepted.
Kane 6 Really clever running off the ball at times. Did everything right for the chance that was cleared off the line. Tracked back as usual.

Impressed with Rose, Dembele and Alli (first half second they shut him down). Lloris was fine. Rest were not as good as they can be. We dropped off after our goal, committed silly fouls and stopped controlling the game. But had we defended their goal, or Njie scored when actually onside we would be lavishing praise on a very impressive away performance!

We didn't keep a clean sheet and Njie will score another day but for me it was a good performance. The team need to respond with a win next match.

Dembele was targeted, go read Pulis' comment pre match ..

We reverted to 80's hack job brick on opponent's influential player.

Lamela was non existent for large parts, Poch should have started Son.

So Dembele is absolved of all responsibility because he was 'targeted'?
Dembele a player we all know doesn't fancy it some days. Its no surprise when the opposition decide to get into his face and give him an excuse to revert to type. If he cant cope with the physical attention without fading out of the game he shouldn't be in central midfield.

But Son was no better or worse than any other of our attacking players when he came on... Why think he would have made a difference if starting?

To me the problem was the service to the 4 attacking players, not the attacking players in themselves. We tried a total of 6 of them today and none of them did particularly well apart from in a small handful of isolated incidents.

I didn't watch the game today but when Pulis was at Stoke, if we went away there in horrible weather conditions then a point was considered a half decent result. I don't therefore think the result today is bad, but we need to take advantage of a run of very winnable games coming up

Not picking on Lamela, just felt we could have done with Son starting, said earlier in thread, most of our midfield struggled ...

No, but you do need to consider the fact that every time he got the ball he was subject to some very poor tackling .. and I still think he was one of the better midfielders today (low bar) for us.

Only watched Sky's one-hour showing, so no ratings from me, but if Dembele did have a poor game then they must have edited absolutely all of the bad stuff out.
Because going by the highlights alone it looked like he had a pretty decent game with a number of excellent dribbles and a fair smattering of intelligent forward passes to boot. Nothing remotely like the AVB version of recent seasons.

Best of our players today I would say. Walker was solid too but the rest were below par IMO.

The had 90 touches today and lost the ball 4 times and was fouled once.
He didnt do enough with the ball when he had it as usual.
There was a moment that summed it up in the second half when Eriksen passed it in him between the centre circle and the D. Dembele kept hold of it for 15 seconds keeping it off players before hitting it back to Eriksen. Usual pointless keep ball for the sake of it.
Lately he'd been a different Dembele a penetrating one. Today when up against it he reverted to type.
