Team - (6) We played well in patched, never felt like they were over running us, but we lack pace up front and we lacked ideas too.
Poch - (5) Dier is not a defensive mid. He tried his best but it did not work. Not the right subs at the right time.

Vorm - 6 Decent display. No problems.
Ald - 7 Really liked his first game. Looked assured. Strong in the air. Some nice passe and some good runs.
Verts - 6 Not put under much pressure. A bad tackle on the edge. He does that fairly often and needs to cut it out.
Davies - 6 Again not put under much pressure. Some strong runs. But he has no final ball at all.

Dier - 5 A bit lost at times. Tried hard and put in the effort. But its not his position.
Benteleb - 4 Way too roostery for his own good. Slack pass again cost us a goal. Got away with another. For his deep positioning he over plays things. Deserved to be hauled off.
Dembele - 6 The usual from him. Some very good possesion, some nice probes but not urgent enough.

Chali - 4 One of his rubbish games like usual. Too good positions= one rubbish cross and getting mugged by Smalling in the box. Average player who causes no danger to the opposition.
Eriksen - 6 The best of our attackers. Should have scored early on. Looked for the ball but was lost with the dire around him.

Kane - 5 Not really in the game. So poor passes. Wrong decisions.

Mason 6 - At least with him you know you get effort.
Alli - 6 - He is not going to be overawed. We need him in the team.
Lamela - 4 Really worried about him. He gets bullied off the ball all too easily.

Alderweireld - 8 (was very impressed by him - positionally good, neat tackler and a good range of passes)
Vertonghen - 7 (solid; did nothing much wrong)
Davies - 7 (solid; decent going forward and not a great deal to do in defence - but no major mistakes)

Bentaleb - 4 (worst game in a Spurs shirt; sloppy, careless passing and a casual attitude to the game)
Dier - 7 (wasn't impressed with him as a CM in pre-season, but he was decent enough today - especially considering Bentaleb was a passenger alongside him)

Dembele - 7.5 (our best midfield player today)
Eriksen - 7 (some good play mixed in with some poor decision-making)
Chadli - 7 (looked sharp for most of the match)

Kane - 6 (off the pace and some poor decision-making; not yet at the level he hit last season - but I have faith).


Lamela didn't do much when he came on; Mason and Alli were solid enough though.

Overall, based on a single game (which is really no basis at all!) I'd say we have improved our defence from last season, but still lack a certain ooomph in midfield and could still do with more penetration in the final third. A work in progress. But progress is being made!.

In the context of playing away to United a team that was above us last season.

IMO plenty to take from the game. I'm a far happier Tottenham fan than I would be UTD that's for sure.

For a game against Man United away, I thought we played quite well. We looked quite solid actually, and were it not for a lapse pass and a bit of misfortune, it would have been an away draw. We needed more creativity from our midfield and a bit more luck. Walker looked quite good to me apart from the unfortunate own goal. Verts and Alderweireld look quite imposing, and I think there is more to come from the both of them.

So walker played very well then? Maybe Trippier coming will have the same effect as Davies for Rose...

Because we were away from home against historically the best side in England, outside of 1 mistake and 10 minutes were extremely comfortable.

They had the first shot on goal at 65 minutes, there keeper was far busier than ours. We did create opportunities, not a lot, but arguably enough to win.

Only two players had an off game, one of which was a sub.

The real question is what did you and the people giving 5's & 6's really expect? A 3-0 walk in the park?

He did, very unfortunate with O.G.

Trippier will likely still offer more with crosses, argument could have bern made that Trippier could have been used today instead of Lamela sub.
