We have so many average players... feels like we need overhaul in the summer but that'd be suicide!!
 
Absolutely aweful display.

Lloris -6- Not much to do

Naughton -4- Many will think this is harsh but today this guy really ruined our attacking game. Notice how many times we played the ball from fullback to winger then back to full back before working it across the back line? Countless times Paulinho and Dembele were making runs into space and Naughton didn't release the ball. Many times he did the same thing when we actually had players standing in good positions on the edge of the box, I mean he must play with his head down because he's so oblivious to everyone else but his winger. Finally that free kick near the end, all our tall players in the box and he plays some crappy ball on the deck which is cut out, WTF!!
Dawson -7- Hero. The man played out his skin and deserves praise.
Vertonghen -7- Silky but both he and Dawson need some good full backs alongside them.
Fryers -5- Not much better than Naughton, he mis-placed a lot of passes.

Dembele -6- Average game. Did some good things and some bad things
Paulinho -6- As above but with even less influence.
Lennon -6- Gets a six because of his defensive work, going forwards he started well but was anonymous for a lot of the game.
Townsend -6- Thought he had a good start but also faded. He and Fryers got mixed up far too many times and they made a lot of bad decisions which left us vulnerable. Too often Fryers ran the overlap and Townsend then refused to use him and lost the ball.

Ade -7- The big man needs a couple of days sleep. He looks shattered and has played a lot of football these last 2 weeks. Still got a good assist.
Soldado -7- Seven for the goal but his performance was no worse than most out team.

Kane -5- Gotta tuck away those oppurtunities
Sandro -5- Was well off the pace and we were lucky we weren't punished as a result

TS -6- We won, but then I don't think anyone can take much credit for that. This game may be another example of the European hangover, but I'm afraid that we looked unbalanced all over the pitch. Our defensive shape is still non existent and if it wasn't for Cardiff being so **** poor we could've easily lost today.

Soldado 7 - nice touches, tidy finish

Everyone else - 5.5 just non-descript
 
You know the phrase "flashes of brilliance"?

Today there were "flashes of average" amidst the poor play.

It's quite incredible how 10 players can look so busy yet leaden-footed, scurrying here and there yet going nowhere.

I just wish one of our talented bunch played above their potential and got a brace, but they keep falling short.

I can't be bothered to post ratings if they can't be bothered to drop the shoulder and score from 15 yards.
 
Job done is about the best said, as well as the bonus of Soldado putting away a goal from open play at WHL.

FBs struggled again, I hope the Walker critics now understand what an average FB looks like ...

TS needs to get more out of these players.
 
We were not far off a good performance. A dozen or more attacks where we didn't manage a final pass to setup a shooting chance. Looking disjointed as usual. I think it partly comes from not having a settled team and shape. It wasn't a bad performance from us. The job was done. But with a better team setup - shape and players positioning - we could have scored 4. Our passes failing to connect because of the lack of defined shape.

Happy Soldado scored the winner.
 
The other issue that seems to be an issue throughout the team, and has been going for ages, before TS was here tbf, but was huge today.
Our passing: It really is poor; I mean when there is zero to minor pressure on the ball,and quite often when a 1-2 is played.
The player passing the ball is either over driving it to the receiver, and totally misjudging the power required, lofting the ball when a pass on the deck is sufficient and hence making the receiver take extra time to kill the bounce whilst he's getting pressed, and therefore hurries his pass, or playing the ball behind the receiver as he's making a forward run.

6 all round, 7 for Bobby.
 
I really dislike the way people do not give credit where it is due just because they dislike a player. I'm not Dawsons biggest fan but he was absolutely outstanding today and was unlucky not to score.

He had a fine game today, but let's be honest, this is the sort of game he dominates.
 
Thought Ade did really well for the assist, I think 9 out of 10 players shoot there - certainly 9 out of 10 of our players. He found the perfectly weighted pass to Soldado instead and it got us our goal.

A lot of negativity about Dembele these days, but he kept working hard for us today I thought. 90 minutes against Norwich, Dnipro and Cardiff today and he helped keep us solid and fairly comfortable despite only being the one goal up.

Dawson was very good, our best defender. Although I also think Naughton gets a lot of stick without deserving it, has shown himself to be good cover for Walker I think.

Townsend 4 i am his biggest fan but he should learn to pass and cross more or he can **** off to Villa which maybe his level
Paulinho 5 looks lost
Dembele 4 This shows why we need to sell him, he should be ripping teams like this to shreds, i wanted us to buy him i was a fan but he offers nothing going forward and is just a water carrier.
Lennon 5 the cross/pass in the last minute sums him up, move him on and get ince in the summer.

Ade 7 so hard working and full of running.
Soldado 7.5 lovely goal hope this is the start of it and he has recovered from being coached by the worse coach in prem history.

I am not Dawson's biggest fan but if are giving him 5/10 for today's performance then you should be thoroughly ashamed of yourself
 
I think Townsend will drop down the pecking order. Which is a shame as he has talent. If Chadli hasd Townsend's desire...or Townsend more patience...

Who will play next week? Eriksen and Sandro will no doubt start. Paulinho does not look worthy of starting at the moment. He needs a rest. We may go with just one up front, in which case Bentaleb comes in. So same team but with Eriksen on the left and Bentaleb for Soldado is my guess.
