Player I would’ve loved at Spurs? Don’t judge me too harshly, but I would’ve bloody loved Bergkamp at The Lane. There, I said it.

Boyhood Spurs fan too…
Hi Dave, do you know that was my initial thought but I decided I couldn't mention a Woolwich Wanderer! I was just about able to distinguish between him as a Woolwich player and as a Dutch player - that goal he scored against Argentina in World Cup '98 remains one of the best I have ever seen.

I had those same reservations Gareth, but given you’re trying to build an audience, not lose one, very wise!

He was such a genius… but with an edge we could’ve done with. It was like watching the game in slow motion when he had the ball.

Eugh, I need to go wash my mouth out!

Rumour was we had the chance to get him from Inter at the time, but we had concerns over his ability to play in England, so opted for Chris Armstrong instead.

It was when Sugar was in his Carlos Kickaball phases, wasn't it?

Seems about right.
A little odd as we’d have been buying him to replace Klinsmann - who’d we signed from Monaco and before that…. Inter!

He felt burned by Klinsmann fudging off after a season

Only just seen the pod title :)

Think that's twice now it's made an appearance...we are so ahead of the curve.

Hope I get sampled into an EDM classic.

It was exactly that summer. The only reservation I've ever had about signing Bergkamp was whether he'd have been a compatible strike partner for Teddy who ostensibly fulfilled the same function. In fairness Armstrong and Teddy scored nearly 50 goals between them in 95/96.

Rightly so. Hard to believe the Goons signed two losers like Bergkamp and Henry and they turned out to be the bestestest evahz.

Bergkamp signed for Italian club Inter Milan in 1993, where he had two underwhelming seasons. After joining Da Popgunz in 1995, he rejuvenated his career, helping the club to win a fudgeton of brick.

Henry made his professional debut with Monaco in 1994 before signing for defending Serie A champions Juventus. However, limited playing time, coupled with disagreements with the club's hierarchy, led to him signing for Da Popgunz

Bergkamp had a Hoddle poster on his wall. It would've all made so much sense...
