Following yesterday's disappointing result - yet more 'astute' comments towards the likes of Sigurdsson and Dempsey have been thrown - are we perhaps expecting too much from some of our players?

What is everyone's personal expecations from each player for the season? Below are mine


Lloris - Starting 11 - First choice keeper
Brad - Matchday 18 - 2nd choice keeper
Cudicini - Squad player - 3rd/4th choice keeper / to be sold
Gomes - Squad player - 3rd/4th choice keeper / to be sold


BAE - Matchday 18 - Starting LB as part of a rotation with Verts
Naughton - Matchday 18 - LB/RB cover - 1 in 4 starts
Vertonghen - Starting 11 - First choice CB/LB rotation with BAE
Kaboul - Starting 11 - First choice CB
Gallas - Matchday 18 - CB cover
Caulker - Starting 11/Matchday 18 - CB rotation wtih Verts when he covers for BAE
Dawson - Squad player - 3rd/4th choice CB
Walker - Starting 11 - First choice RB


Lennon - Starting 11 - First choice RW
Bale - Starting 11 - First choice LW
Sigurdsson - Matchday 18 - ACM/CM cover
Carroll - Squad player - cover
Townsend - Squad player - cover
Falque - Carroll - Squad player - cover
Hudd - Squad player - 4th/5th choice CM
Parker - Matchday 18/Squad player - 3rd/4th choice CM
Sandro - Starting 11 - First Choice CM
Dembele - Starting 11 - First Choice CM


Ade - Starting 11 - First choice ST rotating
Defoe - Starting 11/Matchday 18 - First choice ST rotating
Dempsey - Matchday 18 - ACM/FW cover

Can't fault most of that. A few minor variations:

BAE - Starting LB
Vertinghen - Starting CB, only LB cover
Caulker -Matchday 18 (covers Vertonghen when injured or at LB)
Hudd Matchday 18 (there is room for him as an option during the game)
Townsend, possibly up to matchday 18 by end of season
Naughton - possibly more rotation competion with Walker

P.S. Are you trying to make a point aboout having no starting ACM? If not Sigurdsson and Dempsey get upgraded slightly to starter/matchday 18.

No - I'm trying to make a point that perhaps people are expecting First 11 performances from players who are Matchday 18 units at best (at least currently - Sigurdsson is still young and holds potential)
 
Lloris, Friedel, Walker, Kaboul, Gallas, Caulker, Vertonghen, Ekotto, Sandro, Parker, Dembele, Huddlestone, Lennon, Dempsey, Sigurdsson, Bale, Defoe, Adebayor

Just imagine if we could go into a game with that squad of 18, wishful thinking though with the quantity and regularity of the injuries we get.
 
Not impressed with Sigurdsson, but hopefully he'll improve

I was hoping for 15 goals from Dempsey. The jury is out.

Very impressed with Caulker, Lloris and Dembele.

Extremely impressed with Vertonghen. He oozes class.

From our existing crop I'd say Lennon, Bale and Defoe have started well.

However, my player of the season so far is Benoit. Legend
 
I don't see Dempsey as cover for Defoe. Yes he's scored 2 goals, but they were both tap ins.

I expect Bale to score 10+ league goals and be up there for PFA player of the year.

We will need to buy another attacking midfielder unless Sig improves.

I think Defoe will fall just short of 20 league goals.

I expect Vertonghen to keep getting better and better.

Lloris will be a star once he gets a sustained run in the side.

Sadly, I don't see Walker improving much from the form he's in now.

i think we're more likely to see another central midfielder come in to line up alongside Dembele and Sandro - moving Dempsey to cover for wide left (Bale) and maybe the emergence of Falque as a serious back up for Lennon, whilst leaving Sigurdsson as cover for the more attacking of the CM's (with Parker as the defensive cover) - that would leave us in pretty good shape in terms of midfield and wide positions and only really a striker away from having a top squad (providing Walker can get himself out of this rut or possibly Naughton stepping up to replace him)
 
I am definitely interested in seeing who we sign in January considering how much we miss Dembele.
 
Sigurdsson , Dempsey and Livermore are well below the standard needed for a top 4 team, (the fact that Liverpool tried to buy two of them proves the point!)

I think that Livermore will be a fifth choice when everyone is fit, Hudd fourth and Parker either third or one of the starting two. How AVB handles Parker will be very interesting.
