Picking the team in advance

I’ve heatd it said quite a lot lately that Poch plans the team for each game well in advance and the players know who is playing each game

It’s possibly why some do more than others in certain games and probably why their is so much harmony in the squad as they know where they stand every game

I’ve not heard it said about other coaches operating the same way though

Anyone have any thoughts or experience of this?

With sports science as it is, I imagine every club works in this way.

At least loosely they will plan out their players fitness/fatigue etc over the season such that they always have a decent team available.

Poch was saying just the other day, EVERY player has a tailored fitness plan. So some days a player comes in and is given a real working over, while at the same time someone is taking it easy with a massage. They all know sooner or later itll be them getting it easy/hard and its all about their individual strengths/weaknesses.

The type of planning you mention is just an extension of this sort of thing.

Sir Alex did the same, I've read quite a few biographies from the class of 92 and they all said similar, that AF would tell them months in advance which games and runs in the side he was planning for them.
This makes sense. The player doesn't feel like they are being dropped.
