Our chance creation & finishing - getting worse or better? And effects on our defence...

It has occured to me that for every game when we grab a late winner there are games when if we'd only taken our chances to get ourselve two goals ahead and perhaps have put ourselves under less pressure, deflated the opposition and perhaps allowed us to play on the break and press in phases instead of constantly.

Looking back over the last 5/6 years have we become more or less clinical in terms of chance creation and chance conversion?

Also, is our defence shipping more goals in respect of the pressure we are put under? We seem to have shipped multiple goals in quick succession when we have had slender leads, which could/should often have been bigger...

Thoughts?

Considering just three years ago our midfield was a fit Sandro, a world class Modric, a younger faster Lennon, an irrepressible Bale and an outstanding Van der Vaart... are you really surprised?

Yep.

Under Harry we were a counter attacking team with a couple of world class players that generated lots of chances and goals. AVB changed the way we played and the personnel and we struggled to score goals bar Bale, the tactic also saw our chance creation plummet, so we often resorted to shooting outside the box. Sherwood briefly returned us to something seen under Harry and the goals began to return. As for Poch we are certainly not playing anywhere near as fluid as Southampton were under his leadership, but we are just not blessed with that many intelligent players on the ball which would suit his system better. If we could introduce some more pace and flair I think we could start to see us dominating games as well as having a heathly postitive goal difference.
