Other Teams: What Do You Think?

Following on from recent discussions and the Transfer Rumours sub-forum we'd now like you to have your say on this matter:

Should we try a separate forum for Other Teams/General Football and would it be a good idea to include Other Sports?

We could try it out for a month or so and see how it goes, then revisit the issue and see if it's working.

I prefer it the way it is. I quite like that this forum isn't a massive one with tons of users. If there was a separate other teams or other sports part I feel the place would quickly become a bit deserted. Like it is you will always find a couple of other teams topics on the front page (normally the big thread) and people can nip in there in between the Tottenham topics.

I also feel that it kind of self moderates the way it is, when there's something Tottenham going on then those topics will certainly dominate and people flock there for the discussions, but like today when there's not that much going on then other teams can be discussed in the same place.

It would be interesting to see what people prefer reading and posting about. Maybe Spurs related discussions will suffer with less activity. This is just my opinion, but there's only so much worth talking about at any time concerning one team. I agree that right now this place is working pretty well. Less arguing over nothing.

I quite like it as it is, we have an other teams thread, a liverpool, chelsea and arsenal one, lets be honest they are our main rivals these days for 3rd and 4th

Part of the thinking behind the suggestion is that by having another clubs forum we could do away with the mega threads for chelsea, arsenal and liverpool. Or do people prefer it the way it is?

I think the transfer sub forum suffered in this latest window and was never as active as it would have been in the main forum. I have a feeling doing the same with other teams / games will see less activity in them threads to.

I reckon that some sort of sub section would be good for ALL other teams. Sometimes in the "Other teams" thread, topics get brought up which is interesting, and worth a good discussion but is then quickly brushed away once something else interesting is brought up.

There was just as much activity in the Transfer section as usual, just spread over more threads and less repetitive. With just the one thread a lot of stuff is missed by the more casual posters and often brought up several times, making it less interesting for those of us that try to keep up with everything in there.

A separat forum would see more diverse threads, though I suspect the 'post crap about Arsenal/Chelsea/Liverpool' threads would still exist. We still wouldn't need a new thread for every funny picture or quote.

Even if the total activity increases, it can still look the opposite.

General Football forum makes good sense. Thing is though I almost never stray from SN&V, so i'd probably never remember to check out a general football forum.

Ergo, status quo for me.

Not enough posters to make it worthwhile if you ask me

I agree. We have Arsenal, Chelsea and Lliverpool mega threads but surprisingly not one about United. We bettered them this season and they will be our main rivals next season ;) so we need one!!

Isn't the point though to bring in new posters. I guess the point regulars are putting forward is don't alienate us to bring in new posters.

Currently one would argue it needs to change. For me a sacrifice of clicking two buttons to make the forum more attractive to outsiders would be good for the forum.

Keep it as it is. The current other teams thread doesn't hold one specific topic of discussion for a long time, so I suspect we will see a number of huge threads (FFP, fixtures, Arsenal, Champions League) which attract a lot of attention, with not much care given to other topics. Besides, all topics about other teams are inevitably related back to Spurs anyway, so keeping it in the main forum just makes sense.

In record time we have decided to give it a try for a few months. Will be appearing shortly.

The idea is that any non-Spurs related football topics have their own place, though ex-Spurs players and managers can be a grey area sometimes, but we'll deal with that as it happens. While the 'Let's not laugh at the Woolwich Scum' thread will still have a purpose, this opens up for more specific threads concerning other teams and their players, for example: 'Let's not laugh at the future of England: Walcott and Wheelchair'. In the end it's up to all of you to fill it with content.

I liked the transfer section.

All I'll say is that I don't come on looking to post about the Goners or Chelski so moving them to a seperate area may lower my attendance there. That said, an area where we can have La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga etc all grouped for discussion is quite nice.
