OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER told his players he will be axed if they lose against Tottenham and Emirates Marketing Project this week.
Sunday’s 2-2 home draw with Aston Villa heaped more pressure on Solskjaer with Manchester United down in ninth place.
Afterwards Solskjaer made it clear to the players how precarious his position was, with ex-boss Jose Mourinho’s Spurs the visitors tomorrow and the derby with Pep Guardiola’s men at the Etihad on Saturday.
A United source said: “Ole was a little bit emotional and told them that if they don’t get two results this week, he could be gone.
"It is the worst time to be facing Spurs with Jose coming back.”
The figure of Mauricio Pochettino waiting in the wings after his sacking by Spurs has increased the pressure on Solskjaer.
United’s boss also warned the players Mourinho would be desperate for victory when he returns tomorrow, almost a year after his sacking.
Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has made it clear he will stick with Solskjaer no matter what as they embark on a rebuilding programme based on academy products.
But Solskjaer is not so sure as his side stand just six points above the drop zone.
The source added: “Ole told the players all his and their focus now has to go straight to the Spurs game. He was not being critical of Jose in any way but made it clear to the players just how much their old boss will want to win.”
Clearly a motivational effort from Ole, though I wonder if it will motivate them to throw these games so they can get a proper manager in?

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has not featured since September because of an ankle injury and Solskjaer says he will not be fit to face Tottenham on Wednesday.
"No. Paul's not ready, no," he said. "He's still a bit away but he's working hard so let's see. He's out on the grass, so let's see how long it will take."
Meanwhile, the United boss adds fellow midfielders Scott McTominay and Nemanja Matic are "touch and go" for tomorrow's game.
More from Solskjaer on Matic and McTominay's fitness: "Let's get this training session out of the way. We've got more games than this one, so of course I can't look at just the one game, we have got to look at long-term."

United do have a pace threat with Rashford so Aurier must be disciplined in defence and Son may have to cover James so I’d have Sissoko in the Centre to help cover, with a view to bringing on Dier to close out the game as players tire.
Can’t see either team keeping a clean sheet but a good chance for Mourinho to get one over his previous employers. I think Solskjær might be vulnerable by treating the game as a direct test of his tactical ability and overthink it (United have been at their best when they attack with nothing to lose / be disciplined for)

Tottenham have confirmed that Ben Davies, Erik Lamela, Michel Vorm and Hugo Lloris are all out of the game at Old Trafford.
And here is Spurs boss Jose Mourinho: "I feel good, I like to play big matches. I like to play against the best teams and that is the important thing.
"Going back to Old Trafford is to go back to a place where I was happy. I can say that. I have a great relation with the Manchester United supporters.
"I went back as a pundit, which is a different perspective. I was really humbled by such a beautiful reception."

Can see Mourinho setting us up to be fairly conservative, not so much the player selection, but a lower press, happy with them having the ball in their half, wait for some counter attacking opportunities. Mainly because of the pace they have upfront and since their defence is usually pretty solid. Wouldn't be too different to the Bournemouth game in approach, though we were obviously dominant for much of the have after going up by two.
At the same time their midfield is probably the weakest part of the team, some periods of higher pressure and more intensity could be good.
Not expecting many changes. Perhaps only Winks for Ndombele, perhaps none...
