Jurgen the German

Erik Thorstvedt
Where: Vitality Stadium
When: 04/05/19 @ 12:30pm

This game calls for a an OMT heavy hitter.

Lloris

Foyth Sanchez Toby Rose

Dier Wanyama

Alli Eriksen Moura

Son
Play a strong team and get the win so we can forget about the league and concentrate on Ajax without having the Everton game in the back of our minds.

We’re not playing well but fancy us to scrape a close 2-1 win.

Lean, concise, to the point, no frills or lace or badgers or custard or Tom Jones or badgers or ferrets or ladyboys. 3-1 to us after going 0-1 down after 8 minutes.

Rest them for Ajax:

-------------gazza
trippier--sanchez---dier---davies
kwp-----wanyama---skipp---son
---------llorente--janssen

Team for Ajax would be:

--------------lloris
-foyth---toby---vert*--rose
-------------dier
------sissoko-----dele
-----------eriksen
-------moura----son

*if fit.

So only Dier and Son would start both games, neither of them played the 1st leg and Dier needs the game time anyway. Use Sissoko from the bench v Bournemouth imo.

Like Jurgen says back to 4-2-3-1 which serves us so well under Poch. Maybe Davies will play to save Rose for Ajax and also maybe rotate Wanyama depending on whether he will play next week.
Team v Bournemouth;
----------------------------Lloris------------------------
Foyth---Alderweireld--Sanchez---Davies
---------------------Dier----------Skipp--------------
-------Moura------------Dele------------Eriksen
------------------------------Son------------------------
Team v Ajax;
----------------------------Lloris------------------------
Trippier--Alderweireld-Sanchez*--Rose
-------------------Sissoko---Dier--------------------
-------Moura------------Dele-------------Eriksen
------------------------------Son------------------------
*Vertonghen if fit

So after we crash out to Ajax, we have to get everyone up for a must win game against Everton - where even a draw will see United pip us to 4th?

Alternatively, after we flog the team again after their toiling against West Ham and Ajax, they only manage to draw at Bournemouth, having absolutely nothing left for the away leg at Ajax, and still needing to beat Everton on the last day.

We have never reached the final of the European Cup in the history of the club. If we don't give that absolutely everything, then it's nuts imo.

We'd only need a draw against Everton - we only need 2 points to guarantee 4th

Whatever the scenario mate, I just want us to be in a position where the players can give their absolute very best against Ajax. Because we might never get a better chance to get to a Champions League final. The players look phucking shagged at the minute, the only chance we have to freshen them up a bit is to leave a few of them on the bench for Bournemouth imo.

We're in a Champions League semi final.
And some of you don't want to give us our best chance of winning it.
All because you are scared we won't get a draw against Everton at home.

You can pick a strong side against Bournemouth but everyone of those players will be pulling out of tackles and saving themselves for Wednesday.
Just like that half arsed performance against West Ham.

We can freshen things up a little for Bournemouth but we still need the win, I think we're more likely to beat them than Everton particularly if we go out next week.

I wouldn't be against some rotation at FB, minutes for Janssen and Llorente, maybe Lamela can manage to get himself fit and relieve some of the burden.

I hear what you’re saying. But we have to treat both competitions seriously. If we go out on Wednesday the players will be demoralised and Poch will have a monumental task picking them up for the last game against an in form side with nothing to lose. We don’t want a repeat of the final two games from the 2015-16 season. Being out of the champions league next season would be a big blow for the club.

I think it obvious from our last couple of performances that our "weaker" side can't beat average teams, they might scrap a draw if their luck last. We have no goal threat if Son doesn't play, I'm sure there are some who can come up with stats that prove Llorente and others have great returns from time played but I believe in what I see not meaningless stats. Playing for a draw is the worst possible plan as it set an attitude of not trying to win and every player should always be trying to win at any game. It's been a hard season both physically and mentally for the players but the finish line is in sight we just need the mental strength to put everything aside and push for the goal. Whatever happens its been a very good season far better than I expected following the world cup and other issues with the club and it would be a disappointment not to gain some compensation for all the effort.
