The Last Man Standing 17/18
When : Saturday 30th Nov KO 3pm
Where: The Best Stadium in the World aka home
What: Josė's hat-trick opportunity

Team:

Gazza

Aurier Sanchez........Toby............Verts

Sissoko Dier NDombele LoCelso/Sess

Kane.............Dele

Think JM will ring some changes as he alluded to the fact that some players looked tired on Tuesday. Would like to see some of the new boys start. Bournemouth home would seem like a good opportunity to me

I did the OMT against the Cherries a couple of years ago and inspired us to a 5-1 win at their gaffe on the 15th of the month. Hopefully it will be 3-0 on the 30th as well! Especially important as it is my brother's team!

Will leave others to fill in custard, Tom Jones, badgers etc..

Go Josė, go. COYS

Operation "Have as many sly words with Ake about our project" as possible.

Also, brick OMT. He favours bold moves but I don't think Jose is going to put himself up front at this stage...

We'll see rotation with United away coming up on Wednesday

Gazzanigga
Foyth Alderweireld Vertonghen Rose
NDombele Winks
Son Alli Eriksen
Kane

Expect to see some rotation for this one before the Old Trafford game. Quite a few tired players by the end on Tuesday so can see Aurier, Toby, Winks and Son all being rested. After the apology on Tuesday, would expect Dier to start while the improved performance from Eriksen will also make him a likely starter. Kane probably needs a rest as well but can't see it happening unless we are 2-3 goals up in the 2nd half. So something like this:

Gazza,
KWP, Sanchez, Verts, Rose,
Dier, Ndombele
Lucas, Alli, Eriksen,
Kane

Subs: Woodman, Foyth, Sessegnon, Sissoko, Winks, GLC, Son

Gazza,
KWP, Sanchez, Verts, Rose,
Dier, Ndombele
Lucas, Alli, Eriksen,
Kane

Subs: Woodman, Foyth, Sessegnon, Sissoko, Winks, GLC, Son
Who the fudge is “Woodman”? The ex Palace keeper from the 90s? Did I miss an emergency signing?!!!

Lo Celso, Sissoko, Ndombele
Lucas, Kane, Son

Whiteman, Alderweireld, Walker-Peters, Dier, Winks, Eriksen, Dele

Meh Spurs Badgers 15 Bournemouth in Custard 0

Would be happy with any win

Will be very interesting to see if we start at 100mph or 10mph like against Panathinaikos - we had such a poor start to that game I was still annoyed when Dele got a goal back, still annoyed when we got level, still annoyed when we took the lead and still annoyed when we sealed the 4-2 win, I didn't celebrate any goal as it was such a bad first half hour.

Interesting that Mourinho pointed to fatigue in the West Ham game for the poor performance towards the end. There were other factors he pointed to than players working too hard in the opening hour iirc, but still coming back from internationals plus the managerial change pacing ourselves probably would have come more natural to us if in good form.

Then we start slowly against Olympacos after Mourinho makes very few changes and we know the fixture list is congested.

Perhaps we're struggling to find that balance in intensity? We have definitely seen that before this season, though there have been other problems causing slow starts too, including in the Olympicos game.

I agree with @braineclipse above - we are currently struggling to find that balance between balance and intensity. Hence my team selection in the OMT

Team:

Gazza

Aurier Sanchez........Toby............Verts

Sissoko Dier NDombele LoCelso/Sess

Kane.............Dele

Let me explain my reasoning. I think JM will make changes due to his comments about fatigue. However, I would expect him to keep the core of the team together ( with the defence largely unaltered, the wonky tactic still in place and continue with our best recent performers).

Consequently,

Gazza - retains his place ( largely by default as the only senior keeper)

Aurier - selected on the basis of his two great performances in the last two games

Sanchez and Toby retained as our best central defenders.

Verts introduced to play the LB and slotting left centre back - a role he is ideally suited to imo.

Dier selected to play the holding DCM role. Think JM will do this to show he still rates Dier and there is no hard feelings about his early sub on Tuesday. It also gives him another chance to shake off his rustiness and see if he can regain his form

Sissoko is given the role of covering Aurier down the right and exchanging positions with him down the right wing to add pace and power to compensate for no Lucas.

NDombele is given the role of attacking playmaker from deep - given the extra protection of a holding Dier and Verts with Sissoko next to him.

On the left, I am not sure between LoCelso and Sess. If he wants a fast raiding wide player to replicate Son's role, then this would be a good opportunity to introduce Sess. However if he thinks we need more creativity there, then LoCelso could do that job - remember it was where Modric first started till he got used to the hurly burly of the PL.

I would then retain the in-form Dele and the free scoring captain Kane

This team allows us to have a really strong bench. With Foyth able to cover RB and CB, Winks and the other of LoCelso/Sess and the speed of a fresh Son and Moura to be brought on to attack a tiring Bournemouth defence.

After JM's comments about Eriksen and his clear indication that he won't sign a new contract, personally I would leave him out of the squad altogether and concentrate fully on those who want to be here under him.

must win, must keep building confidence, need to try and string some results together in our new home and help the lads feel comfortable at the place.

don’t worry about United, they deserve our focus, let’s worry about besting the Cherries before we face the Red Devil’s.

nice omt Pirate.....aaaaaahhh make em walk the plank...

I think that 4-4-2 is unlikely to be a starting formation too often. I think that we switched to it late on Tuesday to see the game out after making very aggressive subs earlier.

I struggle to see a starting place for Sissoko under Mourinho unless we switch to 4-3-3 and even then he could be behind N'Dombele, Lo Celso and possibly Eriksen.
