Legacy Numbers: The full list | Tottenham Hotspur

A new initiative has been launched by the Club to commemorate the contributions of every player to have ever represented us in a senior competitive fixture.

Launched today (Thursday 26 October), our Legacy Numbers initiative has seen every player in our history since our first recorded senior competitive game – an FA Cup tie with West Herts on 13 October, 1894 – assigned their own unique number, denoting their place in the history of Tottenham Hotspur.

Following extensive research from Club historians, 879 legacy numbers have now been assigned. Allocated to a player following their maiden appearance for the Club, numbers 1-11 were assigned alphabetically to the players who made up our first starting XI 129 years ago in that FA Cup tie with West Herts.

The latest legacy number, 879, belongs to Alejo Veliz, who became our latest debutant as he came off the bench to play his part in our dramatic late, late win over Liverpool at the end of September.

From our next Premier League match against Crystal Palace on Friday 27 October onwards, all current players will wear their unique legacy number on the back of their match shirts, just beneath the collar

What’s the point - an extra £2 to have a legacy number sewn into replica shirts? Other tawdry merch opportunities? An attempt to appease “legacy fans” with a targeted treat?

Nice thing to do in terms of having a list of everyone to play a first team game, I'm sure they'll add a nice fee to have the number on a shirt

Are they actually going to be available for fans? Seems like a waste of money to me. Similar to people who can’t help but get the PL badge on the shirt, you’re not one of the players mate :D
