For anyone just reading about the sweepstake, it's not to *win* the WC, you can place any bet of your choosing on your selected team (i.e. to receive zero points, top the group etc. etc.)
 
don't think we'll be doing a gambling sweepstake Marky - Milo looked in to it and it sounds like a bit of a legal minefield, so better safe than sorry, unfortunately. read the thread linked in the OP, goes in to a bit more detail re how we plan on doing it.
 
A quick summary of the rules:

1. Everyone taking part gets drawn a nation for the world cup
2. You adopt your nation as a second team and have an avatar featuring them during the world cup
3. You place one or more nominal bet(s) on your nation - completely your choice what they are
4. Post scans or photos of the betting slip(s) as proof

At the end of the tournament:

  • Overall winnings are divided by your total outlay to obtain your ranking, and the highest ranked gets a World Cup Trophy avatar
  • The poster with the most winning bets gets a World Cup Golden Boot avatar
  • The poster who placed the craziest bet gets a coked up Maradona avatar

Not all of them no. Place one before it starts and then you can place as many or few as you want, when you want

Ok but there is a risk that only winning bets are evidenced if not submitted before the event.

I thought that you meant before the tournament started. Sorry yes, all slips need to be posted before the game or games they are placed on.

Have a read through the original thread. Issues about promoting a betting system, legals, etc etc etc

And this is more fun. Otherwise once the draw is done, half the people involved may as well switch off.
